Join Eric Gleason, Director at Kasmin, on Zoom in conversation with Eleanor Nairne, Curator at the Barbican Centre, London, and organizer of the current traveling Lee Krasner retrospective.
Recent years have seen a significant reexamination of the steadfastly experimental and innovative career of Lee Krasner, one of the most relentlessly intellectual minds of the Abstract Expressionist era. Unlike many of her famed contemporaries, Krasner’s oeuvre cannot be defined by a singular image, but rather by a constant pivoting of the artist’s process, compositional objectives, and use of materials. Krasner’s virtuosity is articulated brilliantly in the current European touring retrospective organized by Nairne, which opened at the Barbican Centre in London in May 2019, followed by stops at the Kunsthalle Schïrn, Frankfurt; the Zentrum Paul Klee, Bern; and finally at the Guggenheim, Bilbao, where the exhibition is slated to open in September 2020.
Gleason and Nairne will discuss the evolution of Krasner’s work during periods of tumult in the artist’s personal life, and in contrast to the fashions of artistic taste with which she refused to merge.
