dude, this and chick corea's band are two completely different things - there's a pretty clear different between funk/fusion and (hardcore..)jazz. And yeah, it's primarily the pentatonic blues scale, but they use minor scale/chromatic scales aswell (: I disagree with you - u are listening to this thing as a jazz piece - Don't (: And what's left of whatever ur listenin to is great! :P
@OjAiSaXpLaYeR

He is making attemps as multiphonics when hes doin that thing...Multiphonics are split tones.....he uses them alot on alto...its that grunging sound, not really his thing on tenor though, Brecker was an amazing tenor multiphonic man
@OjAiSaXpLaYeR
14 жыл бұрын
Haha you guys and your gear,,,haha while it is true he uses a beechler a few months ago he found himself a Harrison ligature to fit both his tenor mpc and his alto mpc. and he uses harrison ligs on all 3 of his horns now.

I still think that Dave Koz is just a silver-plated sucker. At least Eric Marienthal actually contributes to the genre. He's done some awesome stuff, even though he plays a lot of smooth jazz for a living.

lol no false fingering,,,its just his altissimo A....on the left hand buttons A & G......its actually him not hitting the note and messing up!

yes, that is true. so i guess it works both ways. what they play gives them their kind of sound and style. like charlie parker. no one sounded quite like him.

This was actually 1994. I was on the Festival staff at the time. He had Phil Perry on vocals too. I was on the front row for this. Stunning, to say the least. Marienthal also was there with Chick Corea in 1991.

@JazzNaySean It makes quite a difference, there's a reason so few players can really pull off tenor and alto. For example I personally find altissimo on alto comes very easily and yet on tenor my intonation goes out the window and its far less controlled. Basically most players can play any sax, but excel mainly on one, or possibly two if the embouchure is different enough

Me being a long time musician, I hate critics that think they know it all, when in turn, they don't know the real deal. Music is what you make of it. I hate when straight ahead players are compared to smooth jazz. There is no comparison. Just shut and listen.

Dude, check out the guy that replaced Eric in the electrik band..That's a real jazz sax player. Eric plays the parts well, but, he lacks bebop chops..Again, you need to to listen to Kenny garrett and Josh Redman,,

of course it matters what a person plays. what they play gives their solo structure and playing off of certain scales gives a whole new dimension to the solo. that is what makes it sound "great" as you would say.
