Although Cleef and Eastwood are the pop-stars of the movie, the best acting performances belong to Volonte and Kinski, two of the best actors of all time. Unfortunately Kinski has a minor role, but it is enough to draw the attention to him. In the two scenes where he is confronted with Cleef, his performance is so powerful that he makes Cleef look like a naughty scout boy. His facial tic due to uncontrollable rage is so realistic (I suppose it wasn't difficult for Kinski to do it as he was half-crazy in reality) , it is the best facial expression I have seen in a movie.

Despite his immense talent, one would be reticent to associate Kinski with professionalism, given his on-set antics.

Yep.....he was a powder keg to work with, just ask Werner Herzog! Kinski definitely suffered with some diagnosed and undiagnosed psychopathic issues. @@garymac5571

Sin efectos especiales, sin parafernalia tecnológica, sin cámara nerviosa. Pura interpretación, pura fibra y dirección de actores. "Monstruos" del western.

The ability to have so much happen without any spoken words.....trully gripping. These drawn out stares....non verbal communications....are a staple of the Sergio Leone movies and the music plays perfectly into the scenes.

Watched this great movie probably 50 times. this is one of my favorite scenes. Lee VanCleef at his best. The only scene that tops this one is when Mortimer kills the hunchback in the tavern. That was so slick

When lighting a pipe is a straight up death threat. The only thing which rivals that scene in cinema, was Bruce Lee eating a bag of chips in Fists of Fury, just before dispatching a gang of bad guys.
