When she brought up the adderall thing I felt as though she's probably never experienced gas lighting before. When someone says they were abused and traumatized but utilize abuser tactics it comes across as very hypocritical and makes her statements harder to believe. That combined with the smugness whenever she feels as though she's right appears downright narcissistic, typically traits of a low self esteem. From my perspective, she's never going to admit she's wrong because there's probably only good and bad people in her mind, never recognizing that we're all good and bad combined, wrong and right sometimes. Nuance is dead and binary thinking has taken over.

Most public schools in the US do teach critical thinking. It's a skill taught from elementary all the way to high school. It just 1) kids dont pay attention/dont care and thusly don't absorb the lessons. This issue could be addressed and hopefully improved through different teaching strategies. 2) some people are simply, absolutely incapable of critical thought. I'm not a neuroscientist or anything but I suspect for a non-zero amount of the population, their brain is simply not powerful (or perhaps trained) enough to actually put in that cognitive effort to dissect and critically analyze anything. It's just too easy to default to authority, faith, or ideology, or grand narrative. And let them do all the thinking for you.

Destiny is right that the move to being primarily concerned with the aesthetics of conversation (word choice, slurs, etc) rather than the content of conversation (intention, meaning, the character it reveals) is one of the worst moves, socially, that people have made in the last decade. So it's funny that this conversation became the perfect example. Sorry to hear about the trauma, this doesn't magically give validity to your argument.

What an obnoxious person. Random personal insults like 'are you on addy's' and talking about his relationship with his son and the mother. This person is probably horrible to interact with on a person level.

Funny thing is saying snide shit like she said is more likely to hurt a person than simply telling them "kay why ess" as an insult
