This is an informative documentary but it gives a very western friendly spin spin on the story. It portrays the invasion of Iraq as a successful policing mission but it doesn't even touch on the fact that the invasion created a destructive civil war in Iraq that is still raging to this day. The invasion also created a power vacuum that led directly to the formation of ISIS and it also destabilised Syria, leading to another civil war in the region. Good job America

I understand Saddam was a sadistic and evil person but that still doesn't justify invading an entire country, killing countless numbers of civilians and destroying an entire civilization because you want to capture a single person. It's perfectly obvious that the decision to attack Iraq has caused more harm than good. The US had the ability and wealth to execute a mission to just capture or kill Saddam just like how they did to Osama but no, they choose to destroy a country and it's so sad and disgusting how this documentary justifies that.

Saddam was a genocidal sadist who gassed tens of thousands of civilians, not as collateral damage, but because he WANTED to kill civilians. He had tens of thousands of people tortured to death in the most horrific ways imaginable. When his army invaded Kuwait the soldiers literally went door to door doing things that I can't even type here. I am an Arab and I can admit all this. As an Iraqi, nothing pains me more than seeing my beautiful country that had a bright future turning into this. We really had a bright future and we were just 1 decade away from being a cival nation but then came Saddam and it's all gone. I still believe that the west damaged Iraq as much as Saddam did and this is a fact no one should denys. I hope Iraq gets better by the time and I believe it will because we Iraqis had enough of wars and conflicts we just want to live peacefully like other nations.

@@siliziwetwetwa2032 I honestly don't know where to start but economically, it's better than before but in terms of safety it's not good. We have a lot of militias that are out of control, even the law can't stop them because they have strong ties with Iran. They are gaining more and more power everyday. We also have drugs issues, it wasn't a thing during saddam's regime. The prices are very high since the Ukrainian war but not all Iraqis got affected by it only the poor people did and the government had to raise the salaries that are below 400$ to cope with the situation. If there is a particular question in your mind feel free to ask me.

Saddam’s mother was depressed after losing all she loved - her first born and husband. To top it all off she was living in a severely poverty stricken town. Resulting in the news of her pregnancy being a trauma to her. She found not living better than living, which is the reason behind her trying to kill herself and her unborn child which was Saddam. The word Saddam literally means “the one who confronts” or “the stubborn one” - because his mother tried to abort him and kill herself but they both survived.

I'm a veteran so I probably have a different take on this than many people but I can't help but feel bad for Saddam Hussein. After finding out that his mother had these issues and essentially never gave him a chance formed her opinion of him before he was even born I know from experience that rejection from one of your parents can really set the stage for a lot of future traits that you may have both positive and negative. Who knows what kind of man he may have been if his mother had loved him and he had been raised with love that might have been completely different. I think this is kind of a case of you get what you expect a self-fulfilling prophecy

On a broader level, removing the “evil doer” from the equation, understanding that the social conditions are what shapes the individual, we can see that dividing people up, offering them no other way out, tends to radicalize entire societies, so why in the world is it still our doctrine in the 21st century ? It’s Almost as if some few privileged people forgot the conditions that brought about the world wars in the first place. And yeah, impoverishing the other hemisphere to get what we want at any cost might sound good, remember people crosses those invisible lines on the map, and the very nature of exploitation suggests it knows no limits, so yeah it reaches our shores, our neighbors, we just have to stop lighting the neighbors houses on fire.
