+Michael Amora The reporter is an a-hole. Why is the media so obsessed with the sexuality of movie celebrities? Tom Hardy already addressed his sexuality in context when he was interviewed in Attitude magazine. This particular interview was about the movie Legend. What da fuq does his sexuality have to do with anything? I'm glad he didn't answer the question. It would have been disrespectful to the gay community for him to even entertain such stupidity.

28:00 I don't get the society in general, some months ago the United States of America decided that homosexual people have the same rights as heterosexual ones. So why the hell do we care about, if someone likes the same gender or not. If everybody would just give a shit and care about his own business, homosexuals would have their equality. So please stop trying to figure out if someone is homosexual or not. If he or she is telling it to you, you do not give a shit and just continue living your life. THANKS

Tom Hardy Has The Perfect Answer To Reporter Asking Him About His Sexuality

@MichaelinNeoh
9 жыл бұрын
OMG these comments.. Since when did it become some grave massive insult to ask an actor about their personal life? It was just a question..And Tom did put the blunt part of that question in the reporter's mouth, the reporter sounded young and unsure of himself, and Tom finished his sentence. I'm pretty sure there is no gay jail for you all to put him in, so go find something else on Earth to get on about.. If you're mad it's probably because Hardy came off as a douche, two times in this video. The Kray brothers are known to be gay, and their homosexuality was in stark contrast to their masculine personas, perhaps a reporter could have put that question in better context, but Hardy could have been prepared to answer an lgbt question, if he wasn't up his own arse.

For those saying Tom turned the question: Tom didn't turn anything. He knew exactly what the interviewer was trying to get at. The interviewer was trying to see if there was a parallel between the character of Ronnie and Tom's own sexuality by starting with a reference to an article Tom did about his sexuality. Tom's probably done this dance a hundred times now and knows exactly where the interviewer is going because there's no other reason to ask the question the interviewer did. The interviewer asked Tom if hollywood celebrities had difficulty discussing sexuality - either the interviewer is expecting Tom to say he's done some survey with the rest of hollywood and can say such and such movie star has issues with it but this other star is A-OK talking about it OR this interviewer is asking Tom in a stupidly, cowardly, indirect way if HE had issues with discussing his sexuality (potentially insinuating he took the role because he's really gay and can't talk about it) - so Tom helpfully clarified that no he doesn't know if other celebrities have difficulty discussing sexuality (how the feck would he?) and challenges with asking the interviewer if this is really the interviewer asking if he, Tom, had the issue. When the interviewer sheepishly goes "sure" Tom brings it to the head with "WHY?" And it's a bloody good question because they're there to discuss the movie Legend - a project he worked hard on and gave a lot to. Why derail the conference from the very reason they're there with something so utterly irrelevant as his sexuality? Tom didn't turn anything - he just doesn't have patience for idiot Interviewers and their retarded time-wasting questions.

the question doesnt even make sense, it is ill-formed. "do you find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality?" he is only one celebrity. phrased like this, it makes it sound like he is asking him about observing celebrities talking about their sexuality. "as a celebrity, do you think celebrities find it difficult to talk about their sexuality?" would be a sensible way of phrasing the question. imagine being a reporter/journalist and not even being able to ask a coherent fucking question. thats what happens when you hire people on the basis of criteria other than competency. "LGBT news organisation", what a joke.

Re the sexuality question. The reporter was doing something journalists do (myself included) to guide people in to areas they may not want to go, or to give them the opportunity to talk about something only if they want to. It's a known technique, but he blew it. Say if you're interviewing a celebrity who has children. Professionalism and respect means you're not going to bluntly ask about their children, because they would shut down immediately. Fully undersandable, and that's why we don't do that. BUT to have the person talk about their kids in your interview is a great scoop, so what one does instead is ask them a very open question that gives THEM the opportunity to bring their kids in to it. For example..."Christmas is just around the corner, have you any plans? Will you be working or taking a little time off?" The ball is in their court then, and if they choose to bring their kids in to it, it's fully their decision and they're in control of the conversation. OR they might not mention the kids at all. If they give you something, then you can gently ask them a follow up, or they might prefer to move on. It's respectful on both sides; it lets the subject know you're just doing your job and not trying to fuck them over. If there's a scoop there, you get it, if not, you can move on together without the atmosphere getting weird. That's what the reporter was trying to do - ask an open question about sexuality and media, leaving Hardy the option of going wherever HE wanted with it. The mistake the reporter made was asking it in a room with 200 other journalists, where not in a millon years would anyone talk about their sexuality. Also, he hadn't properly defined the question in his own head, so when Hardy said are you asking about my sexuality, he froze, and said uhhh I guess... That's when Hardy shut him down. He might have given an answer to that question if it was a one-to-one interview, or if he had thought the question out a bit more. There you go now.

I can only echo what most of the other commenters have said, the reporter behaved like a complete fool and an insensitive one at that! It's none of his business what this actors sexuality is! I think Tom Hardy was very cool, and mature in his response, certainly better than I would have been in his circumstance. I know that being gay is an issue in many parts of the world and can fully understand why organisations such as LBGT are so intensely interested in positive outcomes. But this was not the time or the place, and this sort of activity both from a journalistic viewpoint and from an organisational stand point; does neither cause any good at all. People will react, as I have, very negatively towards this group, based on this press conference! Inappropriate, rude, embarrassing (though not I think for Tom), crude and shameless, are all adjectives that apply to this reporter. Hopefully, he was "strongly spoken to" by his manager about the appropriate etiquette for these occasions!
