To think most of this could have been avoided if England gave the American Colonys a Seat in Parliment to voice there grievances to the British Crown instead there repeatdly ignored by the King and through that the Anger of the American Colonists would spark the flames of Revolution.

It wasn't a british soldier who fired the first shot at Lexington. It was Solomon Brown and there are witnesses to that fact. I have the documentation. I am his first cousin eight times removed. His Musket is in the Lexington, Mass historical museum. His home which still stands today is in New Haven, VT

I'm thinking, as a veteran now, that was the best time for my unarmed civilian defenders to take control of the situation and capture the enemy captain and the 12 or so soldiers and take them captive. Now is the time to understand what the enemy leaders have in mind - when we ask them: What should we do with these guys?

Interesting series however, some inaccuracies, First Gage although he was sent to put down the rebellion, he was sympathetic in private to the American cause. In public, he did try to take command of the city because after all, he was a British Officer. He had served along Washington and others during the French and Indian War and therefore was not the tyrant portrayed here. Hutchison was taken by surprise at all this and frankly was left with his pants down. Not sure that he was the brutal man portrayed here. He did try to appease Bostonians after all he was born in Mass. He just picked the losing side and paid for it. There were some pretty brutal Brits namely Banastre Tarleton In the South colonies. Second, most of the colonies were not so adapt to leave the British Empire at first. Sam Adams and the Sons of Liberty for the most part were business failures and blamed the British for their misfortunes. However, they were smart to see an underlining sense of displeasure with the Brits and capitalized on this. Although the Colonist were upset about the new taxes, they were more upset about NOT having the representation in Parliament to vote on these taxes. They felt that they should have a voice in government before being taxed to pay for a war that frankly the colonist didn't ask for. The Revolution is much more complex than portrayed here.

In my personal opinion the problem in Boston was that the colonial people of that time were still under British rule and as such were still expected to be loyal to King George III. The people killed during this time felt no loyalty to what they felt was a pampered tyrant that was taxing them to death. Their actions against the crown tagged them as traitors. They were not Americans. At least not yet. Had the founding fathers been caught they would have al been hung for treason. And rightfully so. Lucky for all of us that never happened. That said, I am not condoning the brutal actions of the British troops. To be fair our government had its share of brutality shortly before the Civil War or people of the southern states called it, "War of Northern Aggression," Our very own President Abraham Lincoln called up 7500 troops to quell the rebellion/insurrection that had started to grow within the southern states. Yet again, people found themselves at odds with what they saw as a tyrannical government which they sought to be free from. However, for the Confederate States of America, it was not meant to be and in April 9, 1865 the cause died at Appomattox Court House VA with the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: A PROCLAMATION "Whereas the laws of the United States have been, for some time past, and now are opposed, and the execution thereof obstructed, in the States of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, by combinations too powerful to be suppressed by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings, or by the powers vested in the marshals by law. Now, therefore, I, ABRAHAM LINCOLN, President of the United States, in virtue of the power in me vested by the Constitution and the laws, have thought fit to call forth, and hereby do call forth, the militia of the several States of the Union, to the aggregate number of seventy-five thousand, in order to suppress said combinations, and to cause the laws to be duly executed. I appeal to all loyal citizens to favor, facilitate, and aid this effort to maintain the honor, the integrity, and the existence of our National Union, and the perpetuity of popular government; and to redress wrongs already long enough endured. 08:38 high British taxes? the taxes the British government tried to impose were very, very minimal, (after the war taxes in america went through the roof). And Britain wasn't struggling, the British economy was booming at this time, Britain was the first industrial and financial power in the world. The taxes were imposed so that the colonies could contribute to their own defence, not to feed British coffers - even if the taxes were paid in full could only have paid a small percentage of the British debt. The debt which actually was never intended to be paid, the British state thrived on debt, as do most modern fiscal military states today

That's interesting insight. It's even more ironic considering the same colonies who didn't want to contribute towards their own defense decided to become an independent nation so years later we could not only spend, by far, the most of any nation on our own national defense - but place a large burden on the American taxpayers so we can be the largest contributor when it comes to the defense of like 28 other countries - our NATO allies - consisting mostly of European nations. It makes me think of how people who eat at restaurants together sit and argue about who will pay after they finish the meal. In this case, however, Britain would have simply stated the US should leave a tip since Britain will pay for the meal itself. The US would respond by declaring no such tip will be paid as the tip is presumably more than we would like it to be. Yet, a short while later, the US stands up and declares they're not only paying for every customer's meal - the US is also gonna buy the restaurant itself.

Very good video. However, I don't like the over-use of ridiculous terms such as "oppressive empire" or white british citizens from the colonies being "oppressed", etc. The British Empire wasn't oppressive to its citizens. Every citizen was entitled to fair trial and were protected by the British Common Law. The British Empire was broke from the war against the french and wanted to use the richness of the colonies to replenish their treasury - which is the purpose of having colonies in the first place. The colonies weren't against tax, but wanted the right to decide on the tax by themselves - which is an essential right from British Common Law. The American Revolution didn't stem from a will to change or revolutionize, but by a conservatory will to stick to the Common Law. Nothing oppressive in this. This being said, the British military response is another topic.

Dont forget they had a leader at the time that was just beginning to show signs of insanity. A level headed leader wouldve handled these simple grievances with little note in history. They worked hard to cover it up. Welfare mama is the slave owner of the lower and middle class workers. Do something against welfare mama ( massa), and see her crackers (The law), beat you ( the slave).

Bill O’Reily has many many books regarding history. He is a very studied individual of American history. So to say it lost credibility because of him being in it is ignorant. Sounds to me like this doesn’t represent your “truth”, which I think is what the left calls facts now? The truth is the British were incredibly cruel to the colonies and it’s people and regardless of your feelings that fact ignited a war.

I watched this video because my friend and I did a podcast on The Boston Tea Party and how badass they were and how instrumental that was in forming the United States. I love the U.S. and am from Massachusetts so I'm partial to the story. But history isn't a fictional movie. It really happened- with all the nuance and detail of the real world we live in. This video boils it all down to good guy vs bad guy and there is a lot more to the real world than that. You and I know that and so does every single person who was in this program.
