This is a very well produced tribute to some outstanding band programs in the Permian Basin in West Texas. These bands were foundational for establishing a high standard for the rest of the state. The band directors represented on this video were master teachers who were able to recruit, train, and retain these outstanding bands in working-class communities without large staffs, private teachers, and access to university music schools.

West Texas bands are the best. I'm so grateful I followed in my brother's (marching) footsteps by joining the band in junior high and going all the way through high school, then college. Music is still a big part of my life and I have many band directors and music profs to thank. Love the X & O Drill, and Triple Zig Zag. KHS '66

Was in the Symphony and marching band of MHS with Dan Gibbs from 67-71. What a privilege it was to have his as a director.

Thank you so much for posting this. I was very fortunate to have Donald Hanna as my band director in Fort Stockton High School from 75 to 79. We always brought home a division one in marching and concert and sight reading. He was one of this states best band directors. What great memories!! Always will be HOME OF THE PRIDE OF PANTHERLAND BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+David Ingram How true my friend. Back then we had pride and we worked and practiced til we couldn't march anymore and then we marched some more. I will always carry these fond memories in my heart. Wish I had a time machine. Would be back there in a heartbeat.

I played cornet under J.R. McEntyre the first year Bowie Jr. High was open, 1951. Then under Robert Maddox (who coached me in string bass) 1952-54. The last year Bill Dean was assistant. Great memories.

I have asked so many questions. Sorry bout that. At 7:48, after the running entry, by the way was a very popular entry with a lot of high schools back then. Could someone tell me the name of the intro. Thanks so much.
