When I had that set, I made mine into a SEPTA train by putting solid red bricks at the ends of the car and a solid blue brick between the doors. Back in 90s that's how most SEPTA trains look. Now only one line retains that paint job.

For anyone of you wondering, Forest Hills is a real life city-town in Queens, NYC, NY. The four subway lines that serve the town are the (E) (F) (M) and (R) lines, (M) and (R) lines terminate here at Forest Hills-71st Avenue, but the (E) goes all the way down to Jamaica Center, and the (F) goes to Jamaica-179th Street.

However there are still some places where high speed and regional trains use underground subway stations and tunnels and it’s mainly in major underground stations like Grand Central where it might be the case but generally those trains might only travel underground for a few kilometres before exiting through a portal onto their main regional routes! However 60098 would still be quite ideal for an electric maintenance locomotive that could pull freight loads and track maintenance equipment through the subway but it could of course serve as a breakdown train for the system! :)

I still have the 9V tracks, I think are the best for this model as the engine can be totally under the subway coaches and you can free up the space in the coach above without having problems with transmission. Another change that I've done is to remove the seats and put a side bench (without the back) inside, and invert the position of the railings, so I have a flat exterior and handrails in the part of the coach not occupied by the bench.
@RobinHoodBricks
2 жыл бұрын
Sounds awesome. I would really love to have the 9v track as having it open inside is a real improvement. That said, I needed flex track to fit it in my city, on a very tight curve, so that wasn't an option. Great that you can see inside the whole thing!

Just catching up :-) That's a stunning build. Amazing to cram so much into the engine car, and including lights and the hidden button as well just makes for a brilliant build.Almost enough to make me want to start running trains, especially as it takes up so little room. A couple of suggestions / questions: 1. could you make the cars 18 or 20 studs long so you can fit a driver in the cab? 2. could you make the last car more similar to the engine so that it looks like it could be driving in either direction? Just a black tile on the end and adjustment of the top vents would be enough. On to watch your videos of the underground!
@RobinHoodBricks
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a great looking train that one. Yes, you could make it longer but the grey windows are very rare. I'd have to buy another whole set to get enough to extend them all. Also the roof pieces are four wide, so there's that to consider too. Yes, you could make it look more symmetrical I suppose. Enjoy the underground, it's great!

Ha, it seems you were busy watching my latest video while I was looking at this one! 😃 Anyway, that's a very nice adaptation of the original and looks much better! I admire how you have managed to get everything fitting snugly in the power car, that can't have been easy 😬 Looking flrward to seeing how this will look in Brick Nottingham's depths! 🚇

I'm glad you appreciated that difficulty. Yes, it was very difficult. When you're fighting to save every plate of depth so you can have the hidden button AND all the power functions. It'd be easy to ditch one element and have an easier life but I always keep going until I've got it all. That's why I'd love (and hate) GBC!

Robin Hood Bricks yes, I had a similar problem with my custom monorail train which needed to have its main body as just 4 studs wide and still have tiles on the outside, due to having really tight clearances around the track. I cheated slightly and got a 3D printed replacement for the bottom of the AAA battery box, which had studs printed on the sides. Worked a treat, and fully covered over! 👍 So I now have a PF remote controlled monorail train. 😁

@@BlockHeadUK Wow, I didn't know you could get that. There's so much cool third party stuff out there now. Very useful indeed for a four wide build!

If you ever want to build a second subway train you could try making it in the style of that red commuter train. (Sorry I dont know the number)

Well I think this one train will serve both stations by whizzing between them!
