*18:31** Is Telly Monster not Grover.* I realized after the fact that I didn't talk about *play value* of the set for kids (regardless of who builds it). I think Bert & Ernie's place is set up well enough for imaginative play, though another 2 or 3 more studs of plain open floor space the full width would help a *ton.* Elmo's space is super limiting, hard to get around & difficult to even see. Cookie Monster's apartment as a fine spot to sit one figure and have it give monologues. Hooper's shop feels too small & hard to access -- I want to be able to walk a character into the store, "buy" something at the register, and walk out, and that's difficult. This is a so-so play set to me at best, with most of the play value coming from the figures and the exterior space (porch & sidewalks).

Only Jang can make over half an hour review of set and still have things to say about it afterwards. I agree that set seems to have limited playability, as to me it looks like this set is collector piece first and playset later. Which while not ideal isn't the worst. Also, is it the first appearance of that half round piece making sesame street sign being painted? I don't really remember it being painted before and I was wondering if Lego is willing to paint on it.

I was the target audience of Sesame Street when it first premiered, five years old in 1969. Snuffleupagus was never imaginary! He was always real, Big Bird just had terrible luck trying to introduce him to adults!

Came here to say this! It was very clear right from the start that Mr Snuffleupagus was never imaginary-he was always real. BTW, the reason they let the adults finally meet him was because the child psychologists were concerned about the message of the adults never believing Big Bird just because what he was telling them was extraordinary, when the audience (the kids) could clearly see that Big Bird wasn't making it up. They were specifically concerned it was teaching kids that adults won't believe them if they say something "unbelievable", because this was just as we were getting a better understanding about child abuse prevalence and that sexual abusers were often close family/friends who likely would be someone no one would believe was the perpetrator.

I don’t know the true facts - but what I will say, is that TIME magazine reported that he was an imaginary friend of Big Bird’s for 15 years. You can still see this article on their website I believe. So I don’t know if I should believe a youtube commenter... or TIME magazine haha. I think I’ll go with them for now 😂 The difficulty in introducing him, was the joke... that it always seemed he had trouble and that’s why it was plausible.. but that was the joke of why he couldn’t ever introduce him, because he was never actually there.

Snuffleupagus was never explicitly imaginary. Big Bird maintained that he was real but the adults never believed him. Eventually the producers realized that it is very unhealthy for children to see adults totally disbelieving Big Bird, and the adults finally saw him. The change was brought about because of concerns that children wouldn’t report abuse if they thought they would not be believed. There are a lot of good articles about this and other ways Sesame Street has adjusted to better serve children over the years.

After watching your review, I decided to pick it up myself, drove to the big city after work, got stuck in traffic, got home at roughly 9 and spent the next 5 hours building this set, a big grin plastered on my face as if I was a 12 year old that got a deathstar for christmas. Honestly? This is my Death Star, symbolically. I'm very pleased by the set and haven't enjoyed such a simple build yet fun in a long time. Bionicle was my Star Wars, but Sesame Street was my childhood. I would gladly buy a second one just to do it all over again.

Re: changing the snuffaluffagus canon. I heard an interview on CBC radio (Canadian news station) with a long time (former?) member of the Sesame Street production crew years ago, they were talking about how the show had evolved and learned from its mistakes over the years as an educational programme. She said they made snuff real because a running joke/trope was that whenever big bird tried to tell an adult he was real, the adult would say “oh no no, that’s all in your head” etc. They were concerned that kids wouldn’t talk to adults about important stuff or things that were happening to them for fear they’d be told it was “all in their heads”. Basically they wanted to drive home the point that adults are there to help, and if you tell something to someone you trust, they’ll believe you instead of talking down to you.

The perception was that Snuffleupagus was imaginary, not merely not seen because of bad timing. Because this caused the adults to not believe Big Bird, children advocates and educators felt it lead children to think adults wouldn't believe something the adults did not personally witness, ie abuse. At that point, the decision was made to bring Snuffy out into the open.

Even though I don’t actively watch Sesame Street anymore I really appreciate it for the nostalgia it provides me and the legitimate value it has. It’s not just a show for kids, it really is amazing at teaching kids what they need to know in creative, fun, and interesting ways. I really want this set

I miss my LEGO sets. I felt pressured to sell my sets because I was getting into my teens and felt I was too old. Then these videos made me realized how wrong I was. Missed so much fun sets over the years. Still just as fun to watch your videos.

The photo of a food truck in Cookie Monster's apartment is from the most recent seasons where Cookie Monster now runs a food truck alongside a Chef monster named Gonger who actually originated from the Furchester Hotel which was a British spin off to Sesame Street

I think the missing window is to accommodate the accuracy of the interior of Bert and Ernie's apartment. It was probably a compromise that considered the fact of the street level shot on the TV show not showing much above door.

A few references: the milk carton in the window sill is where the twiddlebugs live (I hadn't thought of them in over 20 years but remembered them instantly when I was building it). The "clock" is an image from the often played cartoon with marbles rolling around that with the song "1,2,3..4..5..6,7,8,9,10.....11,12". And Guy Smiley is the TV Host that appears on the TV. I love the set. Ordered it day one, and I also agree this was not really designed for kids and play in mind. But the details that are there are perfect for the adult builder with a strong sense of nostalgia for the show.

Well since Mr. Hooper died. His store has changed hands at least three or four times. It's currently owned by Alan. Mr. Snuffleupagus now has an entire species, though they haven't really done anything with the Snuffleupagus' as a whole since the late nineties I think.

This is a charming build, it definitely brings up some nostalgia for me. It’s also exciting because Lego seems to have reversed its rule about not making new part molds for Lego Ideas sets, which means there’s a lot of potential for new IP’s to appear in the future.

It’s really nice that Hooper’s has returned to its classic coloring both in this set and in the show. I remember ten years ago when it was bright orange and blue but now it’s back to having that look and feel of a classic malt shop.

In my youth long long time ago, I had the fisher price sesamestreet, which looked more like the original ideas design. Bert and Ernie's room was at the same floor as seen here. For me that is correct for lets say 45 years. This said, I base my knowledge on the FP set. We had sesamestreet here in the netherlands but with another set up and lots of characters in the og show never showed up in the version here. We had bert and ernie though, but we saw only the scatches they were in. But isnt sesamestreet just like lego? Just use your imagination and create your own reality. It sure will gives a better world. Looking this video brings back some nice childhoodmemories

I never watched this show, but for how colorful and vibrant it is, I'm absolutely amazed that it has a black fire hydrant. I've literally seen real-life hydrants with more flamboyant colors than black before. I wonder how that design decision came to be, lol!

I vaguely remember Mr Hooper funeral they had on the show to teach a lesson about death. I thought Snuff was still his imaginary friend? LOL Today they have a lot of crazy stuff on the show. Last time I paid attention at all was 10 years ago when my youngest was old enough for her to kinda like it.

If I remember correctly the missing window is because CTW wanted it based on the most current version of the stage set. Which has had some gradual changes over the years. For example didn’t Oscar used to be to the right of the stairs? Also BB’s nest was not really defined in its location in the older seasons.

Oh man! I used to watch Sesame Street as a very young kid as well, it was my very first favorite TV show at that time! I'm glad Jang and I shared something similar in our youths! That said, the set is not perfect, a few add-ons and more walls would have made it better and maybe a few other characters, but the nostalgia factor is through the roof for any Sesame Street fan!! I seem to recall the steps of the brownstone being more towards the centre of the building and Oscar's can and other garbage, being on the right side just before you got to Big Bird's nest. Inaccuracies aside, I still want this set. To this day, I still have a scary number of songs and skits from the show (up til the late '80s) burned into my memory...

And I don't want to indirecly support (because this set needed not just reaching an ideas goal, but also probably needed licensing...) a group who promotes Rottenburg center.

I'm kind of disappointed of all groups they work with them. Could they not have found a decent Autisim advocacy group, or just promoted Autisim acceptance? Jaysus Christ, torture was only banned in 2020 in the States (Wikipedia; Rottenburg Centre)?????? Also how is such a centre even legal? I thought Asylums were no longer allowed to treat patients like that. That is insane. Note: I'm not all that up to date with Autisim Advocacy groups and such, but from what I've read on Wikipedia they seem to be pretty terrible. With things such as it's a disease, and might be on the side of Vaccines cause Autisim. And just generally why the hell does Autisim need genetic researc, what happened to Neuro-Diversity and acceptance. At the same time there's also the militant Autisic lead groups that shame Autistic people everywhere with their behaviour, with talk of being better than Neuro-typical yet still demanding to get Disability {I'm thinking of a specific lot, in Ireland anyway Autistic people across the spectrum receive Disability payments which are means tested} .

Very well done design of the Sesame Street set, that being said, logistically they made changes on who actually lived in the building. I recall Ernie and Bert living in the basement floor. Also, they should have added the adult figures as well, like Maria, Luis, David, Susan and Gordon, Bob. Speaking of which, Luis' hardware shop is missing from this set.

This set could give modern-day LEGO Classic sets a run for their money in part diversity / number of unique parts in proportion to part count, and I don't mean that favorably _at all_ to LEGO Classic - it's one of my and many fans' main gripes with the theme. With over 1300 pieces, this set is comparable in that regard to any of the big 1500-pc Classic boxes that have been released in the last 5 years. Great review! Unfortunately this set is 200 Singapore dollars which is really not a great deal here.

its all just fun 2 challenges for an experienced builder 1 mirrored do it after the instructions but on the opposite side i done it once or twice almost melted my brain because you can´t go on auto pilot you have to think out each step if you don´t your brain will want to follow the instructions so my advice is to concentrate and accept you are likely to make mistakes 2 its all in the bag in a realy small build in a single bag try to assemble it with out opening the bag
