show off!!! :) I used to live in kenya, East Africa 1982-85 (age 10-13), in a town called lake Magadi, its a private town about 85km from Nairobi. Magadi is in the Great Rift Valley and is a solid white soda lake very much like Death Valley in California. Only Magadi stays incredibly hot 365 days a year - about 50 degrees c! There was an ex-pat commuinity of British families living in this desert town. Many of the young lads had technical lego and we built off-road vehicles - damper susp en'all!

This thing was such a disappointment when I got it. The steering barely worked, it could barely drive because of all the gearing with the engine, the suspension had almost no travel and was way too hard. And it broke if you held it wrong. Most disappointing and expensive Lego set I ever had.

@@frederikandersen8402 never heard such nonsense before. This is a VERY good set. Just don't push gears and connectors together so hard and make sure they rotate smoothly

full-time 4WD (no center diff at all); triple-clutched 6-speed transmission, four-wheel swivel steering (around a vertical drivetrain axis) four-wheel independent wishbone suspension (very similar to yours, in the above, though not using exact same pieces) dual-clutched, fully-lockABLE (also can be fully open) front and rear differentials. all with LEGO jumbo tires (i think same radii as in above, but def wider) the motors you used are WAY torquier-seeming than mine, which interests me alot...

@bampsp The red part is a clutch that allows you to switch between different gears when using one motor, similar to how a transmission works. This one is for switching between the winch and the body lift functions.

Building the kit is pretty fun, not to hard. Adding the motor and remote control is somewhat challenging, but enough help is out there to make it easy enough. Adding 4 wheel drive took the longest as I tried a few ways of doing it. Overall, it was a good project that took a lot of time to get it all working together. It would have been harder if I tried to do it all at once.

sick video too man! i just love how you've showcased everything so well - and every step along the way. I can't stop watching it! I REALLY need some of those new-styled diff housings with beveled outer gears; they seem like such an improvement over the previous version! how long did it take you to complete the mods? how long have you been in the real-LEGO game? isn't bricklink AMAZING! im so stoked about this vid you made that I'm inspired to share a little about my custom bot:

The offroader comes with power functions for lights and lift/winch motor. I added these items: controller 8885, (2) sensor 8884, large motor 8882, medium motor 8883, wire 8886. I also added some parts from bricklink . com (like another Technic Driving Ring)
