I bought this set way back when it came out. Had it stored in the attic, but the release of the McLaren set 42141 made me decide to build this set once more. It's definitively an old set. The instructions have fewer steps and instructions to motorise the set are also included. The panel gaos are quite big, but I don't think that's a problem. To me they give a general look, however, I do like the modern Technic sets too. Also, the instructions for an interesting B-model can be downloaded from www.lego.com. All in all a model that functions very well and is highly playable and not so much a display model. As such, I didn't bother to remove the blue pins and yellow/red axles and accent colors from the model. The set also has some downsides. The tires are not as realistic as the older formula one sets had, which is a shame. The set also is a bit smaller than the older F1 sets, as well as the new McLaren set. As such, it fits better with the set 42039, 24 hour racer set.
