Muhammad haziq You are forgetting that Lego has to pay the designers who painstakingly perfect each set, pay for the licenses to sell star wars branded sets, pay for higher quality materials and a manufacturing process with much tighter tolerance than that used by lepin. Lepin does not pay designers, they do not possess the necessary licenses and, as evidenced by the video has no quality control. That's right. Lepin proves that Lego doesn't have a large marginal cost, otherwise Lepin wouldn't be so cheap. So why Lego is so fucking expensive is totally to do with Disney. Then again, companies do need to make their money back somehow, but sets seem to be getting smaller and more expensive, so we as the consumers aren't getting much in value. Just look at the re-releases and redesigns of the MTT, AAT, Clone tank and the Imperial Star Destroyer. They're almost 50% smaller in detail and pieces yet they're double the price. 7679-1 Republic Fighter Tank from 2008 had room for 2 clones (also included), a back hatch, a top hatch with a rotatable turret and it was significantly big. The 2017 version was probably close to 60% smaller, room for ONE clone, no back hatch nor top hatch with rotatable turret and was highly insignificant ( *This image is a comparison* i.ytimg.com/vi/MkgqyAwjh1o/maxresdefault.jpg) Yet the smaller set actually costs more than the bigger set did. Lego downsized plentiful over the years, yet they've been charging higher with lower marginal costs on products. Lego is a rip off, the only thing I've got in the last 10 years was the FO Star Destroyer, which has a few flaws compared to the MVP Star Destroyer from the early 2000s (the F0-SD has shitty turrets). If Lego was actually fair, they wouldn't have competition with bootleggers.

William F wtf do u mean they steal from themselves. They remake stuff so its more accessible after they are retired so buyers dont have to go on ebay and buy for way more money. Jacob Henrie-Naffaa Way to be a corporate slave. There's no justifiable reason to charge children or parents so much money for a building toy. I don't how old or autistic you are but back in the 90s and early 2000s Legos were far more cheap and accessible because it wasn't devoted to losers and a franchises. Get a job and a family and then tell me it's okay to drop a weeks worth of work for a toy that isn't even as cool as the older ones. Plus lego's releases can be terrible. More money for less pieces.
@musicmanstudios3645

William F you're speaking as if you HAVE to buy a set. You really don't. If you don't like a set, don't buy it. If you can't afford a set, don't buy it. Liscenced LEGO sets cost so much because they have to pay for the liscence itself, (Disney in particular charges a lot), and they have to pay designers, and graphics teams to actually make a product. Knockoff companies dont have any of those expenses. Having an appreciation for a great company that makes really good products doesn't make me a corporate slave. I dont buy every LEGO set ever. I just buy ones that I really want. If I want a big expensive one, I save up. A parent doesn't HAVE to buy his kid a death star, he could get him maybe Luke's Landspeeder, which is only 20 bucks. [Edit] why the fuck are you just throwing around autistic like it makes you superior. Jesus man. What the fuck is wrong with you
@o_o474

Lego charges way too much for what it is, it used to be way cheaper and prices keep on going up. It's bad that people infringe on Lego copyright but if another company can make Lego products cheaper and legally (legal because sketchy Chinese copyright laws) than it is normal that people would buy the cheaper one. It doesn't make sense to get so pissed about people buying knock offs, it is not rly going to hurt Lego very much if some people who couldn't afford Lego anyways bought a cheaper knock off. With these things you get what you pay for, buying a knock off you should expect things to not be the best quality.

Anything but LEGO is advantageous as long as "perfection" is not sought after in the sets. Besides LEPIN, there are many LE(etc) (LELE, LESPI, LEKO, etc) sets in CHINA. The China market is mainly focused on satisfying the gratification needs of the population over there and passion is not the main focus over there. It's like buying a ROLEX watch from Switzerland or a ROLEK watch from Thailand. They both work just fine - basically tell time. The only difference is on cost in excess of US$10,000 and the other is under US$100. One last pretty much the buyer's lifetime and the other no more than 12 months. With a price tag of US$100, you can buy 100 ROLEK which will also last you your lifetime.

Lepid (and the like) doesn't have the same job to do, which is why they can make something close for so little. They don't have to pay the licensing fee for the Star Wars name, they don't have to pay the development team to design the model, they don't have to pay the marketing costs to introduce the products, etc. They just sit back and wait for Lego to release it, then make copies, produce and put it up on Aliexpress. Of course they can do a decent job for much less. Lego won their lawsuit against Lepin. Others seem to have taken their place. I'm guessing that the main reasons that Lepin is so much cheaper are 1. They don't pay for the franchise licenses, and don't have to come up with their own ideas. 2. They probably use oil-based ABS plastic. 3. They don't have nearly as good of quality control as LEGO. Having worked a job that involves designing molded plastic parts, the tolerances that LEGO maintains in their product is incredible, and I guarantee that they pay out the nose for the tooling for the molds. Additionally, after buying LEGO sets for almost 20 years, I have had only one LEGO set with a missing piece, and they replaced it for free. In fact, it could even have escaped while I was opening the bags.

There is a big price difference betwen $28 and $85, but I bet you could get the LEGO version for about $60 at some point when the price comes down. You could buy some original LEGO bricks/pieces from Brick Link, to replace those that aren't up to standard, and it would still come in a lot cheaper than the original LEGO set. That said, I don't think Lepin sets are worth the saving when it comes to LEGO sets that are still in production. Retired sets are a different matter, but I still would never purchase a Lepin set. LEGO sets retain a strong resale value, whereas a Lepin set is essentially worthless for resale.

For example: The Imperial Flagship, on Bricklink costs 600 dollars Mint condition. But Lepins costs 70 dollars!!! And The Quality is the same, and soo is Build!

I don't know why people would risk buying Lepin when there is a veeeeeeeeeeerry good chance that it will be functionally disappointing. However, I would like it if Lego paid attention to the way Lepin is printing their instruction manuals. I am getting really sick of the oversized instruction manuals from Lego - and think that their instructions could be (AND SHOULD BE) greatly reduced. Not only would it save paper, but it will be less of a pain in the arse to store. When every single instruction manual is oversized, I end up having folders filled up with manuals in no time.

Whenever I've bought from lego online they've always shipped the set in a two part cardboard box where the upper piece slides down over the lower. Its very sturdy, and the actual set-boxes are always in mint condition inside. I've only bought the more expensive sets online, so I can't say from experience what would happen with smaller sets. If I had to guess, I'd expect them to adhere to the same level of quality.

Well you do get what you pay for. Lego has huge quality assurance measures to get their peices to be perfect. Since anyone can (and many do) make lego style brick they're considered "off the shelf parts". In the USA you can't patent a product that anyone can make with off the shelf parts. Lepin definitely walks a fine line when it comes to trademark infringement ("Star Wars", etc), but since they don't actually call them star wars they're not technically breaking any laws (although "intent" is a consideration and a judge could rule on that). Additionally, since these are kits you build from scratch there's nothing illegal in providing instructions to build popular models as long as you don't use TM'd words, phrases or images (like original images of the X-Wing fighters from the movies, etc). I think they should move away from using Star Wnrs (or variants) in the Star Wars font style and call them space sets or something in an original font. While it is shady to copy lego models, it's not illegal.

The hatch can be sanded down slightly on the corner to make it close. Missing peice is bad luck, seller should give you replacement or enough money back to buy part on bricklink. Engine thing can usually be solved by swaping around the 4 engines (swap really tight one with really loose one). The helmet is garbage, but you get what you pay for (you can buy the helmet for $2 on bricklink). Don't get why you say mediocre. Less than 1/4 the price, minor problem with 4 out of 700+ parts. Huh?

The word "Lego" never appears on one block that they make... They are not breaking the law. The copyrights explicitly state that "Lego" is identified on every block in the "design patent". Maybe if "Lego" put some of that money into legal protections, there wouldn't be so many knock-offs. Now, if they claimed to be "Lego", then they would be "counterfeits", and there would be a potential lawsuit. However, they are not claiming to be lego. Lego doesn't own the "blocks". They were invented before lego even existed.

sound more like a manufacturing issue as in hatch shape ended up 0.5-1 mm off its "handle" connection thing and all this "tight fit" thing goes to hell it may have failed too cool fast enough, got bent when unmolding, etc etc. even on super precise conveyor line things can go a tiny bit off, and they are in alowed margin

Allot of Lepin supporters forget they are cheap cause they don't hire people to make sets from scratch. The huge price mark up should be obvious. LEGO isn't making 80% profit. The prices are the way they are because everything is done for them (and they're chinese). The design, how to build it, marketing/advertising, quality control, getting patents and liscences from Disney, Marvel, etc. is an overhead you aren't getting with Lepin for sure. This is why those theives sell it easier. All they have to do is make and copy plastic pieces. By prefering Lepin, you are indirectly causing harm to the people at LEGO who make an honest living.
@iJizzmyPants69

Kinda shocked that lego costs ~3x the amount of lepin. -1 for missing pieces( i have had plenty of missing pieces before from big sets, but more than likely lego comes with extra pieces ). Front hatch doesn't close. Figure visor is not clear. 3 negative points that imo could be fixed for less than 5$( factory wise). I wont be buying lepin, but it's pretty clear that lego bricks aren't that hard to reproduce at a low cost.
