Sorry, but I disagree. I love my M10-D so much more interns of the controls and design. I felt that this Leica M11 is just an after thoughts. I love the fake film advanced lever, the ISO dial and the bottom plate from M10-D. The only thing that I wish the M10 (in general) have is the internal drive. Great video!

@@TheMPhotography Sorry I hope I didn't came out sounding harsh, yes it is personal taste. BTW I also own a Leica M11 and I guess to me taking out ISO dial to make the M11-D was a little too little of a change to me if that makes any sense. Anyway, as I said great video! I really enjoy the review :)

Fantastic camera. I’ve never been able to really adapt to the large screens. Using an optical viewfinder and then an evf is just habit, so this should be the perfect digital Leica M body.

Thank you Markus. Looks like a lovely camera. I shot Leica for years owning the M6, M3, IIIF, and IIIC. I love their film cameras. So I decided a few years back to purchase a few years back the limited production of the Leica ME- 240. Quite honestly, the Leica love that I had for film was totally gone with this camera. Slow, clunky, rangefinder better on my M3 which I still have, and slow to use not a street camera by any means, After only 1000 photos and my distaste for the camera I sold it and purchased a Sony A7cII. Very small, fun to use, and the Leica look was achieved easily using my old Leica lenses and a couple of the new ones, With my f2 50mm Summicron v4 lens and the 35mm f2 summicron and the 40mm f2 rokkor the pictures were equal to my Leica. I had a good shooting experience with the film but digitally Imho the company is living off the romantic past of the great black and white photographers from 1950-1970 mainly. The main thing is love the camera you use and everything will turn out well. I have always beleived it is about the lenses

Thank you. I couldn't agree more. There is no best camera other than the one that one likes to carry around with them. I can understand your point of view how the digital M lives off of the nostalgia of the past, which works in a niche of photography. The lenses are for sure an integral part of the look.

I'm glad they didn't bring back the modes to the on/off switch. I had the M240-P, and many times I accidentally started the camera in continuous mode. I only shoot in single mode, so I appreciate the simplicity of this design. The only problem I have is that it lacks the ability to change the white balance in-camera. I never use Auto WB; I always switch between daylight and tungsten. It would be great if they added user profiles that could be switched in the rangefinder window menu.
@TheMPhotography

I could imagine that it is possible to introduce user profiles and make them accessible via the fun button. But will they? Time will tell. But it could be possible. I like the idea 💡

Another feature missing, in my view, is the ability to format the internal memory (the SD could be done on the computer). I wish there was a way to do so in one go on the app (as opposed to, I guess, select all then delete all).

Hi Marcus, this was right on time and fantastic as always. As this is not available at the stores to handle and check, I got an offer for Leica to pick this as soon as they have one, for a moment I was also thinking if I should let go my beloved MD, but I don't think I have the courage to do it. Your detailed review is helping me stay put. I got a chance to handle the M11 last year, however somehow I found the lighter weight a bit of a miss. Btw one thing I am curious about is the viewfinder on the 11-D. How was your experience with it? Thats the only thing I think could have been better on the M-D. Thank you!

Greetings from Zurich to Zurich! A very nice and inspiring video. I've been taking photos myself for half my life and am currently shooting with the SL3. A great camera. But somehow I've been thinking about digital photography for many years. As perfect as the pictures from an SL3 are and as easy to use as it is. Somehow this way of taking photos doesn't really appeal to me any more. That's why I'm actually thinking about selling my SL3 system and "downsizing" to the M11-D platform. I own a few analogue cameras, including a M6. So I have an idea of what to expect. Nevertheless, the appeal of taking this step is very great. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this. Best regards Andy

Hi Andy, The SL series and M are very different. If you don't rely on the SL system for your photography and you are already familiar and like the M6 then the M11-D is a great digital camera. Greetings back to Zürich from Zürich 😀

great review and thanks for comparing the 3 MD lines and I agree, hope they keep releasing an M-D model with each new M body. For me, I could care less for continuous and timer selector being with the on-off switch, I think it gets very busy with the letters being on the top there. I will never if hardly use it. Again the argument will be its just sliding the lever one more click so why not have it. I think its all about taking away from the essentials. I love that now we have a base IS0 of framing 64!!. The original had it starting from 200 ISO. I own the OG M edition 60 which is a stainless version so makes it that much more special to me, I love durable materials. The type 262 M-D version is classy in the sense its got the black glossy paint.

I actually like the on/off switch on the M11-D. I hate the shooting options on the M240 because I'm always accidentally putting it on burst mode. I do prefer the M10-D design more because it looks more like the original film cameras. Leica missed the opportunity make the advance lever to take the next shot in single shot mode. Now that would be an awesome D model.

@@IDaumI yeah, that maybe cool but getting away from what a digital camera is. Guessing you wind it and then only are able to click the shutter until you wind it again. Definitely it gets you closer to the film experience. m10d doesn’t feel like afterthough at all… They introduced different button placement, mechanical ev compensation, wifi connection for menues, evf support and thumb lever. M11d feels like they didn’t know where to put thumb lever , as it’s on and off button there and they just scraped the Idea. I would love to have thumb lever on all leicas. But as someone who bought by now: m2, m4, mp, m240, m10, m10m, m10r ow yeah and m10d and two m11 plus sl2 and sl2s and lenses wise: 24lux, 35 cron, steelrim, lux, apo and 50mm cron, lux, apo I am finding hard to digest price of 9000 euros for newer models. ow Forogot i used to own q2 and q2m and 50 0.95 :D I steel keep around 40.000-50.000 euros worth of leica gear but started to move to hasselblad as prices are getting crazy even for my taste :(

the m10-d is a nice balance of a camera, I prefer ISO to be on the back and where the current ISO dial is on the top, the EV can be there! and yes the lever is essential and a must, great Idea, there Leica but somehow you got cold feet and took it out! it was not even an eye sore. I am sure many more complained about it so it was removed. The price is just too much to justify buy if you already own a few or even the previous body. around the $6k-$8k mark would be a good price. this kind of $$ is better spent on Leica lenses.

But nothing to do with photography, sorry ! I'm also putting a lot of money in the shooting experience, so I can really understand, but my picture are not better, just the pleasure is much bigger (Leica M7, Nikon F4, Canon Eos 1-V, Fuji GX680, Rollei 6008 and Fuji GFX100).

Fully with you. It's all about experience. I talked more about it in my previous video. With regards to the photos in this video: I only had the camera for a very brief period. They for sure do bot show what the camera is capable of. I barely had the time to familiarize myself with the camera and make the KZitem video. The camera is of course capable of so much more. I was not expecting to have killer photos in this short of a time.

There is nothing new about the M series. They are all the same with little variations between models for marketing purposes. The M camera line starts to be useable (i.e., with minimum problems) with the M11. The only good thing about the series is the M lenses and they can be used with other mirrorless camera (manual or aperture modes) like the micro 4/3 models. All reviews about the M11 series are the same (people keep repeating the same thing over and over).

So one gets the new M11D. Then with complete surprise one finds that the only way to format an SD card or the internal memory Leica says go do it on your PC. What! Yes, that is true. There was no provision for formatting any memory on the M11D even through the Foto app. How could even the beta testers let this pass? Heck, with all the other M11 variants one can format both memories (SD card and internal) with a menu selection. How could one even imagine that Leica who wants to keep things simple with the M11D has just done the opposite by complicating a simple task of formatting memory. The M10D can format the SD card via the Foto app, but not the M11D. Why? How do I feel? Let down by Leica just when there should be a positive moment with a new camera. Surprised you did not mention this oversight by Leica software engineers.
