Seen them only weeks after this TV appearance. At Raiders Club Queanbeyan New South Wales. Lemmy looked down at me in my HAWKWIND t-shirt. He said: "hawkman this is for you" They broke into Too Late... Too Late...

Paul sounds like Jerry Lee Lewis, Phil sounds like cranked Chuck Berry, Lemmy sounds like Lemmy. Perfect. I saw this the night it was first on. This is my favorite late night musical performance on any show.

I'm glad you liked it and got another chance to see it. KZitem will eventually block this (all of the Letterman stuff that I post eventually gets blocked). When they do though, I'll just repost it to my website.

Letterman never talked to them backstage apparently and probably didn't like them.
@tamalie2

Talk show hosts not talking to guest backstage is common. The idea is to avoid having conversations before the show that could and should happen on the air. This performance rocked. I watched the night it first aired and have always remembered it.

@tamalie2 dude, you're so wrong Almost ALL talk show hosts, or their producers, or staff do a pre interview Just cover a few topics that can be brought up during the on air. Especially comedians... the host sets up the comedian that way to do his bit Do any kind of research and you'll find the same info numbnuts

Ah, but you left out the bit the came after the commercial break. Lemmy's sitting next to Dave. Dave says, "Well, that was nice, but if you do that again, we'll ahve to close the youth center". Lemmy says, "Well awright!" and they roll the credits.

For me this really showed Phil's contribution to Motorhead. If someone else was singing I probably would have remarked that it sounds like Phil on guitar.

This reminds me that Sid McGinnis always seemed to be undermixed on the Letterman show, like whoever it was who was doing the audio never seemed to understand it'd be nice to be able to hear the guitar when they're playing a solo.

One of the reasons might have been that the album they had just released titled "1916" and not "Motörhead", as Letterman said.

If I'm not mistaken, Lemmy explained this is his book. Part of the band had some issues getting US visas (drugs possession or something). And Lemmy decided that if the band is not complete, they'll go with a cover.
