ritchie was not only a huge influence to ed van halen, yngwie and many others..but he was also responsible for cascading pre amps in old marshalls which IMO inspired van alen....he also could wipe the floor technically with anybody in his path in that late 60's early 70's ..a great ball breaker that could back it up

in the last 30 years i`ve met ritchie several times and he was ALWAYS extremely polite and a nice person to talk to - never ever refusing an autograph when asked for and even asking me to join playing football. he´s the greatest in my opinion!

@@brianhammer5107Anyone that is any good is hard to work with. Ritchie spent time I jail for kicking a Security Guard because the Guard knocked the hell out of a young girl trying to get close to see the greatest guitarist with Hendrix to Perform on Stage. There is the Concert in Munich 77 that didn't start until 2:30 am because Ritchie was being driven after he got out of jail to the Venue. When you watch it Ritchie was very calm. He played well but he was his normal spontaneous self. So he was pretty good to take up for her. The Security Guard ended up being the owner of the Venue. They tried to sneak Ritchie out but got caught.

The "victim" in this story is (was) Erik Thomsen, a legendary Danish promoter over 40 years (also known as E.T. because he looked a bit like E.T.) and Ritchie did some other practical jokes on him as Bob Daisley told in the DVD "Rainbow live in Munich 1977" ; unfortunately, he passed away in May 2006.

Ritchie Blackmore and his practical jokes were always first class, he along with Cozy Powell sealing Tony Carey's hotel room brick by brick for example or he and his bandmates sans Joe Lynn Turner sneaking into the orchestra pit throwing tomatoes at him eventually leading Turner to berate the French audience lol! I hope that Iceland joke was true too!!

I thought he was amazing. The city I grew up in didn't have a rock station worthy of an audience so I ran my antenna wire to the roof and picked up KLOL in Houston 90 miles away. I was only 13. They had a really cool DJ name Crash in the 70s. It was hit or miss on the reception, but that is when I 1st discovered real rock music. Deep Purple immediately went into my record collection which eventually encircled all four walls in my bedroom stacked two rows high. The good ole days. Rock on.

Loads of stories on Ritchie out there, some of the stories (not mentioned in this video) e.g. of Ritchie opening the door of other band members dressing rooms and farting strongly, laughing about it then shutting the door surely can't be true, or that story he put old kippers in Ian Paice's bass drum and he complained of a foul smell for about a week before he finally found them, is it true? So many stories out there, they can't possibly all be true! Ritchie is a fantastic player, seems genuine person though I'm sure doesn't suffer fools or people that can't keep up musically.

Maybe you should research more your idol before making these low assumptions.
