I made a scarf/hat combo using this stitch for my niece who moved to Colorado before Christmas. She said they were very warm. Very easy to do!

With this pattern, you turned the chain to the back. Do you have to start the stitches from the back, or is it something that you like to do?

I always end up going back to those crochet hooks, they are the best for me.

This was the first stitch pattern I learned! I called it Single-Double and never realized it had an actual name - ha!

So many people have so many different names for the same stitch,, that is the "houndstooth" stitch. I dont know why people call it so many names? Ive always known this stitch to be called the houndstooth.

One of the things I love about crochet is that we repurpose stitches and use different names for different variations. I think it’s fun! Although confusing for beginners for sure. There are lots of varieties for the houndstooth as well and it’s usually done in alternating contrast colours. Personally I’ve also seen the Lemon Peel stitch also called the Seed stitch and the Soft Moss stitch.

Thank you for the great tutorial. I came here to check that I'm getting this stitch right as a pattern I'm currently following says I should end every row on a SC. With this stitch pattern, that can't be done without losing (or gaining) stitches, can it? 🤔

It would just depend on the pattern. The lemon peel stitch in itself is just alternating single and double crochets...but how the rows start and end are entirely up to the pattern writer and what they want/are trying to achieve.
