I feel like people who grow up in lower-income families such as myself we're always taught that going to therapy meant something was wrong with you and that you were crazy. This is a great way to reach to an audience of people with all classes and raise awareness!
@jgg59

I think a lot of us because of the way the healthcare system in this country is set up we think it’s out of reach for us growing up who were or are working class. But definitely a stigma attached to it whether you’re black or white but particularly I’ve noticed in the black community. This is so great that that stigma is slowly being chipped away

I think it also depends on the type of therapy. The stereotypical image of lying down on a couch talking to someone who may not relate to you, I find that many people stigmatize this. But if you wanted to relieve anxiety through coping mechanisms such as transforming your energy into creating art or talking to "your pastor" this was ok. Even self-medicating with available drugs as long as you remained a functioning person is ok. Many people actually use drugs responsibly, are not addicted and can function normally in society, but don't broadcast what they do, because of stigma. Check our Dr Carl L Hart and Michael Pollan. But another part of the stigma is being suspicious about who you can trust to be confidential with your history. Sometimes talking to and having a buddy who empathizes is therapy too. We have to find the right flavor for our own situation.
@jgg59
3 жыл бұрын
@@Akilahfoye I’m not sure what type of therapy you’re talking about laying down on the couch. I’ve been in and out of therapy for 40 years when I need to address certain situations in my life. It’s always been relatable conversations what I want to work on. Drugs can be part of the process but you need to talk therapy in combination with the drugs otherwise you’re just masking the problem that’s a problem we have in therapy today regardless. One going on medicine for anxiety and going into talk therapy so you can get off the medicine that should be the goal. Unless of course there’s another diagnosis going on that’s a different story. Art therapy and creativity is a wonderful option

Why would they? They have no mandate to pass a massive radical spending plan in the middle of an economic downturn and skyrocketing inflation, especially with a 50-50 split in the senate.
