I have recently started collecting IBM ThinkPads after falling in love with them after watching KZitem videos like this. However most of them have issues, I have a 42 which I can’t get windows to install on as it doesn’t recognise the hard drive, an R50 that freezes after a few minutes (apparently this is a common issue with this model but the fix is easy it just needs a new battery), I also have an X61 which has a 12 inch screen with the 1024×768 resolution and Windows 10 with an L7700 processor, 3 GB of RAM and Intel graphics. I love the small compact size of the X61. I have also bought a T60 with Windows XP which has a Core 2 Duo processor, 3 GB of RAM and ATI Radeon X 1300 graphics, and a 1024x768 display. But the sound of the Internet do not work, I think I need to install the drivers.

I love these old ThinkPad laptops, T42, T43, R50, R51, T60, X60 and X61 are all awesome, I love the keyboards, the trackpoint and the 4:3 ratio on these displays. Although I prefer the 1024x768 ones as 1400x1050 makes everything look really tiny on a 14/15 inch screen.

I have a T43p with the FlexView panel, 1600x1200. To me, it's worth it and text looks really good on. They bring said I have good eyesight so that might be me. I never use display scaling on my PC.

@@KylesDigitalLab I would need a magnifying glass using 1600x1200 on a laptop screen lol. I do have a 21 inch Eizo Flexscan S2100 monitor from 2005 that is 1600x1200 and I love it.

imho no point in a T60 when the T61 exists & has SATA II (with middleton bios), up to 8GB RAM, and can actually be used as a daily driver today

Somewhat true, good luck getting a T61 with a 4:3 ratio screen though. Im using my T60 as a daily with Zorin OS and it's doing well. It even runs Win10 although it does struggle.

@@jamesholcombe1915 Got one (two if you count the extra motherboard and 2 SXGA+ screens) from a nice guy on the thinkpads.com forum! going to upgrade one with the X9100 or QX9300 (if I can get the latter to work) - which is not too far off from a low-end 'modern' CPU

Amazing video, the new Thinkpads aren't as good as their predecessors. But it seems to be some damage in the IPS panel at 5:26, in the top left below the tab, or is it just a reflection? Just curious because I have the same thing on my Dell panel, and apparently that is damage pressure on the display, or a defect in the making of the panels.
@KylesDigitalLab

should I be worried that my intel graphics t60 heats up while gaming?
@KylesDigitalLab
3 жыл бұрын
If you put new thermal paste on the CPU and graphics chip, then no. If you haven't, now is the time to do it. Get some Arctic MX-4, remove the thermal pads from the chips, and put some on. As long as it doesn't go above like 90C it should be good. I recommend buying the heatsink for the later W500/T500 model, it fits in the T60 chassis and cools things a bit better than the stock T60 heatsink. Really though, the Merom Core 2 CPUs are known for heat, and the later Penryn CPUs found in the T61 and T400/T500 run much cooler, while being faster.

Do they have a 4:3 screen though? I like the T60 because it's one of the last 4:3 laptops, and Windows XP is great in 4:3 for retro gaming instead of 16:10 or 16:9.
