I own a Lonovo P1 Gen 3 workstation. It's fans are constantly running and the associated noise would drive these architects in their small Copenhagen studio crazy. The noise can be slightly reduced by unplugging the computer and running it on battery power, but then the screen dims every time a new application window is opened and the battery fully drains within a couple of hours. I paid almost A$7,000 for my machine.

@@Lenovo Hello Rai, Thank you for your response. The fans have always been constantly running, right from day one. I always keep my computer up to date, including logging into 'Vantage' on a daily basis and hoping for a BIOS that might fix these issues. Purchasing a A$199 extended warranty I also had a Lenovo technician remotely log into my computer, but he finally admitted that there was not anything that could be done. Looking through associated web forums, the loud fans issue seems to be a common problem for many P1 Gen 3 owners. My previous computer was a Lenovo T440s and I am now reverting to this machine when concentration and peace and quiet is required. I am trying to return this expensive device, but negotiations with my local Lenovo HQ's have been ongoing for months by now with no end in sight.

Hey there! Please try the steps below: 1. Access the BIOS page on the laptop, here's lnv.gy/3xHTNgG how to access it. 2. Inside the BIOS page, go to the Config > Intel SpeedStep technology > Mode for AC > set to Battery optimized. 3. Still in the Config tab, go to Adaptive Thermal Management > Scheme for AC > set to Balanced. After that, press the F10 key to save and exit. The laptop will respond properly and check it again. Let us know how it goes. -Chris_Lenovo

@@Lenovo Hello Chris, Thank you very much for taking the time to provide me with these instructions. My P1 Gen 3 now has the following BIOS settings: > Intel SpeedStep Technology - On > Mode for AC - Battery Optimized > Mode for Battery - Battery Optimized > Scheme for Thermal Management - Balanced > Scheme for Battery - Balanced > CPU Power Management - On The current BIOS is: NZVET3IW (1.16) There are no changes to the behaviour of the fans, with both of them constantly running, even when there are no programs open. Pulling the AC cable and allowing the computer to run on the internal battery reduces the fan noise, but this is no practical solution as the screen dimming issue is now introduced and the battery drains relatively quickly. Here are the experiences of other P1 Gen 3 owners: forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile-Workstations/P1-Gen-3-minimal-Fan-Speed-on-AC-power-Win-10/m-p/5043797?page=1

Thanks for trying the steps. If the BIOS is up to date and settings have been changed in BIOS, and you're still experiencing fan noise, try to use the intelligent cooling feature. You may view the user guide here: lnv.gy/3raBPB6, page 18, for reference. Allan_Lenovo
