I've had the 9i for over three years, mainly from one of your older reviews, and it has been the best laptop I have ever owned. Unfortunately I dropped it a few weeks ago and cracked the screen, which caused a lot of issues like the touchscreen not working and the cursor jumping all over. I just bought the latest 9i from Lenovo in storm gray with the FHD screen again. I like that resolution for 14" and the colors seem very bright and accurate without oversaturating. Something I don't want with photo editing.

Nice to see Intel 12th generation product hitting the market. Certainly one I will consider after I see more releases from all the suppliers. I would like the OLED but it may be a little pricey and I do put a big emphasis on battery life. As long as the text --what I mostly work with--is crisp the 1920 x 1200 10 x 9 disoplay is probably a better choice for my needs. I hope Lenovo's FHD modeI with 16GB and a 1TB drive (please Lenivo make it as fast as the OLED version's) is $ competive. Thanks for the review. Excellent as always.
@dylandagoneau3642

The performance difference you noticed is mainly due to the resolution difference of both display (FHD vs 4k). Driving all the pixels of the 4k display is much more taxing for the CPU/GPU. Of course you can get back performance if you decrease the resolution of the 4k display to FHD but often not fully because you get an additional processing step (fitting FHD images in a 4k display)

Hi Marc, thanks for an excellent and informative review. Regarding the Stylus / Pen, Lenovo bundles an E-Color pen, which has hexagonal sides on the barrel with two button on the sides, and one on top, with all three buttons configurable. Again the very interesting point to note about this pen is, it has a feature which allows picking color from any object and then using that color on the screen.

Nice PC. Camera looked good and clear and microphones sounded good and clear. No distortion or muffled sound. The only problem with the camera is the image movement was a little jerky, not smooth (Looked a little like a cartoon movement). Display looks excellent. The 4K display is much better looking than the non 4K display unit. I think all iterations of this PC should be equipped with a minimum of 16 gig memory for what one is paying for this. Agreed this should have at least a micro SD card reader. For those people needing a pen this unit is nicely equipped. Great review.

Great review Andrew! Great channel too. On the OLED version, do you have detials at what brightness PWM starts to show up? I'm also torn between ips and oled (due to pwm). Will not be consuming much media anyway, more productivity work, but my concern is the resolution might be too low on the IPS. Are the text crisp and sharp on the FHD? Thank so much for this review! I've been so torn between the 9i with IPS or that beautiful OLED or the new ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7. It looks like the 9i consistently performs better than the ThinkPad because the latter seems throttled to avoid fan noise? I think even getting the 8GB is an option since it seems to do better in benchmarks than the 16GB version so for my needs, perhaps going cheaper may be fine. Do you have any insights that you'd be willing to share? Thanks Andrew for the amazing review!

This’s latest gen Samsung OLED panel that SS has announced late 2021. Only 2.8k panel has 90Hz while 4k stick with 60Hz. Lenovo & laptop OEM in general don’t produce panel so they just supply whatever available. If this laptop has 2.8K panel 90hz option (same as Yoga carbon) then 4k 60Hz might be a tough sell.

Thanks Mark! The price for the 4k OLED with only a 60Hz refresh rate is disappointing. I have been loyal to the Lenovo brand for quite a few years, I currently own the 2021 9i, which is my 5th Lenovo. I've been waiting for them to put out an OLED and I've been looking forward to your review since the new 9i was announced at CES 2022, again, thanks! Also disappointing is the lack of a USB-C thunderbolt 4 port on the right side, my current 9i has one. I'm not fond of the fact that the panel is only 400 nits, my current 9i panel is 500 nits, I spend a lot of time outside, so the screen brightness is a bit of a concern. Lenovo's Premium Service warranty is worth every cent, they've always treated me very well but I'm just not sure if I'll buy the new 9i OLED for $2400 (including warranty) or move on to another brand. I'm hoping the Lenovo rep will be on your channel soon to answer some questions.

4k OLED is a premium option and looks leagues above IPS. You have to pay if you want the best. Also 400 nits OLED is not equivalent to 400 nits IPS. Look at 1:44 for reference.

@@BigBoss7777777 Thanks. I don't mind paying more for the OLED, I would prefer it to have a 90hz refresh rate. I noticed the difference between the two screens, my current Lenovo 9i has a 500 nit UHD IPS screen, if the OLED isn't that much better than what I have, there's no point in me buying one.

Andrew, I just noticed that when you measured the brightness on the Slim 9i 4k OLED you got more than the advertised 400 nits (440) but on this Yoga 9i model, with the same 4k OLED panel, your measurement came in under 400 nits (397). Any thoughts on why that is? Could the 90hz refresh rate on the Slim 9i (compared to the 60hz refresh rate on the Yoga 9i), make a difference in the brightness?

Hi folks, i had the Yoga 9i for a few weeks. Overall it will be a good convertible, that was the reason after CES 2022 i have knew: "I will book it also without tests". But please consider the electronic of the fans is really terrible. I hoped it will be a production fault but i isn't. Please go to 10:00 and set your speakers louder. You will hear besides the typical airborne noise a terrible high frequent noise. This noise is also noticeable when the fans are running at low rpm. At this situation you can't hear the ariborne noise, but the terrible high frequent noise comming from most probably from the electronic of the fans. Maybe other guys have no problem, it's right that i have a tinnitus and i'm nowadays sensitive for some high frequent noise, but my girlfriend has a typical 700€ notebook and i had not told and she said, that the notebook has a unpleasent noise. If you will buy, please take the IPS or maximum the 2,8K. The OLEDN plus 4K will consume too much and for 14 inch i don't thinkt that 4K is nessesary.

I just picked this up, and I have to say, the trackpad click is terrible and the audio is so very subpar. Seems it resonates with the chassis/soundbar, like a ghetto car sub rattling the trunk. I like the idea, but it is amazing that we still have "premium" non-Apple laptops WITHOUT haptics trackpads which allow the same click feeling ANYWHERE on the trackpad. The fact that the audio is so subpar also I find interesting that other reviewers think it sounds good. LOUD does not equal good. The 3 audio profiles are just as bad.... Initially the 9i would win handily in Cinebanch 23 but that has changed over time somehow, maybe Furmark for hours? 9i sounds much louder and I like it better. She likes the Book 2 better and it revolves around the webcam software auto-framing and low light performance (Samsung Studio Mode). She says the pen is much better to her on the Book 2 as well.
