I agree no one can compare to him, he was truly a most unique singer/ piano player and song writer.

Leon wrote this song.. Melissa Ward here We've been lucky to. See him twice. In a smaller blues and jazz club. We sat right behind him and the piano.. memories that Noone can take from us.. truly a privilege. . Master of space and time. He was a member of the Wrecking crew way back in 60s also. Do a deep dive on Leon.

There is so much... so very, very much that Leon created, directed, arranged, inspired, assisted, nurtured, influenced, and everything else possible that one would spend a surprising amount of time to appreciate. From his time and considerable contributions in the pantheon of art made by that famous and hyper-talented group known to history as "The Wrecking Crew" during its heyday in the 1960s, his agreeing to assemble, supervise, direct, play multiple instruments in, and everything but sing Cocker's part, in the "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" concert tour, help George Harrison produce the very first Aid concert, The Concert for Bangladesh, of which many others were made in the image of (Live Aid: 1985, Farm Aid: 1985, Live 8: 2005, Tibetan Freedom Concert: 1996-2001, Nelson Mandela's 46664: 2003-2008, Tsunami Aid: 2004, Tibetan Freedom Concert, America: A Tribute To Heroes, and many others), his creation of the recording label "Shelter Records" which started careers like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Leon managed to make hits like "This Masquerade", "Delta Lady", "Stranger in a Strange Land", "Roll Away the Stone", "Tight Rope", just to name a few. So inspirational and genuinely moving was Leon that people came together to help each other and created a worldwide support group they named "Leonlifers", there is a great video on KZitem telling of it entitled: "Anything Can Happen - The LeonLifer Story".

Leon Russel was a super talented session player back in the 50's and 60's. He started writing songs for artist after his session career and eventually started putting out his own albums. Love Leon such and awesome voice and ear for music.

Grew up in Oklahoma during Leon's time there, so we always thought he was special, like so many do when it's a local talent. Try out: Stranger in a Strange Land, Roll Away the Stone, Lady Blue, and his fabulous cover while helping George Harrison with The Concert for Bangladesh - Jumping Jack Flash / Young Blood. Hope you get a chance to react to a few, they are all very good tunes.

An amazing artist. Brilliant in every way Listen to Leon and Joe Cocker, "The Letter" live. Classically trained pianist since age 4. Was one of the biggest session players in 60s and 70s. This was part of the Homewood Sessions which was broadcast on public broadcasting...worth listening to. Check out Crystal Closet Queen.

Hi Patrick, Leon was amazing. He was a founding member of The Wrecking Crew on piano including playing on many Beach Boys songs. He was responsible for 3 Carpenters songs; A Song For You, This Masquerade and the most famous Superstar. Though that was co-written with Bonnie Bramlett and originally titled Groupie (Superstar). You wanted something more recent. Well here’s his co-writer Bonnie Bramlett singing Groupie with Leon in the audience. If you don’t get goosebumps, I don’t know you, I think I do. I just hope you look at older messages. This was before Leon passed about 7 years ago. Joe kzitem.info/news/bejne/uKx7zZ2Qap6EaoYsi=ZT65OEy7-xcyBTnv

I so much appreciate your openness to Leon here. It’s obvious that you are a fan of the song, but not everyone is able to put a favorite version aside and listen to the original artists. I LOVE Leon Russell, but I’ve seen him perform live. Not everyone gets him. But, you did. Bravo and thank you!

Like this song, you would like an upbeat song that he both wrote and recorded that sounds like rock 'n' roll with a gospel choir. The song is Stranger in a Strange Land. kzitem.info/news/bejne/kZ-Cm5WFg2l9hW0
