By all that is Holy. Thank you God for giving us such talented people on this earth. How many of those who perished in the Holocaust could have enriched our lives even more? :[

I first heard Leonard 35 years ago and finally got to see him live in Wellington New Zealand in January 2009 and with out a doubt it is the best show I have ever been to. He just seems to get better with age. One of my wishes in life is that I get to hear him again live.

What a fantastic song, a handsome man and a lovely songbird, this was the most tearful music I've heard for very long, I did know it for many years, but a re-listening is fantastic. Thanks for the music..

It is coming, it is coming, the end of the exile of the Shekhinah, it is coming, then we all shall we reunited with our source; until then we have L Cohen's songs to fill our hearts, satisfy our "swollen appetites." It is coming, it is coming . . . one day

no one can do Cohen like Cohen. One of the highlights of my (external) life was seeing L.Cohen in concert with these two ladies. It was at a conference centre that had once been a gracious train station -seems fitting- and it was filled with tables, cafe style. There wasn't a single eye/heart/ear not riveted on him, male and female alike. Wine glasses were (almost) untouched. Best concert I've ever seen, I think.

Now the flames (they followed) they followed Joan of Arc As she came riding through the dark (through the dark) (No) No moon to keep her armor bright (armor bright) (No) No man (to) to get her through this Very smoky night (through this smoky night) She said, "I'm tired of the war (ooh) I want the kind of work I had before (ooh) With a wedding dress or something white (ooh) To wear upon my swollen appetite" La-da-da, la-da-da... La-la-la-la... La-la-la-la... La-la-la... Well, I'm glad to to hear you talk this way (ooh) You know I've watched you riding every day 'N something in me yearns to win Such a cold and lonesome heroine "And who are you?" she sternly spoke (ooh) To the one beneath the smoke (ooh) "Why, I'm fire, " he replied "And I love your solitude And I love your pride" La-da-da, la-da-da... La-la-la-la... La-la-la-la... La-la-la... "Then fire, make your body cold I'm gonna give you mine to hold" Saying this she climbed inside To be his one, to be his only bride And deep into his fiery heart (ooh) He took the dust of Joan of Arc And high above the wedding guests He hung the ashes of her wedding dress La-da-da, la-da-da... La-la-la-la... La-la-la-la... La-la-la... It was deep into his fiery heart (ooh) He took the dust of Joan of Arc And then she clearly understood If if he was fire (ooh) Oh, she then she must be wood I saw the glory in her eye (in her eye) Myself (I long) I long for love and light (and light) (But must) but must it come so cruel (so cruel) And oh so bright? (And oh so bright?) La-da-da, la-da-da... La-la-la-la... La-la-la-la... La-la-la...

This is his best sound right now. Absolutely awesome. I heard this Joan of Arc done in his younger years, and as a musician myself, he sounded like Adam Sandler and was as atonal as one could get. Actually hurt my ears to listen to him slide flat/sharp to try and settle on a recognizable note. I thought it was a joke at first. Ok, getting on my asbestos suit....flame on!!

@TheMarieco1Yes I agree. With his 75 years today Leonard Cohen is still like 3 x 25 years. What does it matter? As long we are listening to his music we don´t have to care about time anymore. Did you ever see his DVD from London 2008 - Wonderful !!!

@peglegs69 It´s true. When I was 14 he won my heart with "Suzanne" which is my real name. I´ve seen him on the the Isle of Wight 1970, in Paris 1975 and at last in my hometown Stockholm Sweden in October 2008. Yes it was the same for me - a perfect feeling. This old man just gets younger and better and gave me a feeling that this was the best that happened to me 2008 - some kind of refill? - past or future I don´t care

Not at all, unless all love is a delusion. I think for Cohen it must live on a number of levels, but that it is primarily about the love between a man and a woman, for all its destructiveness, in all its transcendent glory...

Such a myth, Joan of Arc didn't die at the stake, she married and had two children. Great song though.
