Developed in 1910 by Westinghouse Electric Corporation as an industrial thermo-set laminate for electrical insulation, Micarta is known for being "The Steel of the Plastic Industry". Micarta is a hard, compact, composite material that will not warp, expand or shrink with age and exposure to the weather.
Thanks to its technical features, Micarta is used to make airplane propellers that will not shatter, airplane pulleys that won't flatten which would make the plane hard to handle, silent street railway gear wheels, and to make many other products where a material of lightness and strength is needed. It is considered one of the most innovative material of XX century and advertised as "Micarta: the material that changed the meaning of plastics".
For our new exclusive project with Leonardo Officina Italiana, we chose to use a Micarta Canvas CE made of canvas layers which were soaked in phenolic resin, then baked and pressed into rods. The charming look of this material is enhanced by a new and minimal interpretation of the iconic Momento Zero shape that features a ringless design on body and cap.
Since this Micarta is made with canvas layers, the fountain pen will take the sign of use, making each pen a unique piece that tells the history of people who own and used it. Due to the nature of the material, Micarta could stain in contact with ink. For this reason you will find a pipe to fill the pen via its converter and an additional grip section in black resin in case you want to fill the pen from its nib.
Leonardo x Stilo&Stile Momento Zero Micarta is a limited edition fountain pen to 223 pieces worldwide and available with 14k gold or steel nib.
