@@vivimos_en_una_sociedad7758 No he's right. Claypool said it multiple times, he wasn't ready for the audition at the time, he didn't even know who were Metalica nor how big they were. He also said that even though Hetfield said he was "too good" he knew exactly that they thought he was too WEIRD to fit with their band and image. Ultimately, I think it was for the better. I don't think Les took it personal to be seen as "too weird", he was often purposefully making weird stuff because that's what he liked to do. Also, I don't think Claypool would have liked playing with Metalica anyway, he would have gotten bored pretty quickly in my opinion because it's not a genre he's used to, it's not - as he would become used to - a genre that is constantly changing and evolving and most of all, it's not a band in which he would most likely have had a lot of creative freedom, which, from the little I know about Les, would have been an immediate turn off... That's partly why I love Les so much and why I resonate with him, he does things out of a need to create, to invent. He said once that the reason he played bass was because "that's the crayon I pulled out of the box" and he would "still do the same weird stuff if I had picked up the trombone or the guitar". This further proves his need to create. In a different interview he also stated that if he wasn't a musician, he would probably be a filmmaker. I truly wish I knew what a Les Claypool movie would look like. To an extent we know, with the different videoclips he's done but... In all honesty, as a cinema college student, I think he would have had the chance to impact the 90s cinematographic industry the same way Kubrick did the 70s. Les' mind is such a creative and unique thing. If I ever have kids one day, I will most certainly show them some Primus as part of their musical and cultural education, once they reach a certain age and are able to actually comprehend the art in his work, of course.

I saw them live playing this 22 years ago and it was the wildest concert I've ever been to. Everything was so surreal. They were all wearing costumes and makeup and had these weird instruments. The guitar play was playing a tiny nylon string guitar with a slide. Les was playing whatever this weird crank bass was. There were 2 drummers facing each other and it felt like they were battling the entire time. I've been to probably over 100 concerts since then and still have never seen a performance like it.
