So deep is the night, No moon tonight, No friendly star To guide me with its light; Be still my heart, Silent lest my love should be returning From a world far apart. So deep is the night O lonely night, On broken wings My heart has taken flight And left a dream. In my dream our lips are blending, Will my dream be never ending? Will your mem`ry haunt me till I die? Alone am I, Deep into the night, Waiting for the light, Alone am I, I wonder why? Deep is the night.

I am coming to the party late; danced to this piece of music last Sat. evening (Jul 08/17), played by a steel pan, key board and percussion instruments. It brought back memories, heartaches, and reminded me of my father dancing it to the recorded music of the late Victor Sylvester.

Another beautiful version is "No Other Love" by Jo Stafford, who had the purest most perfect voice in all popular music.

Personally, I enjoy David Chittick's the most. He sings with this gentleness that, for me, is more congruent with the lyrics. I like this version, too, but felt it was a bit too strong at the top. Chittick nails it for me with that gentle crying question, "Will your memory haunt me till I die?" And then a bit stronger the second time through. Just found a version by tenor Jonathan Antoine. And, I have to say, his might be my favorite version, now.

As a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, and principal soprano of the English National Opera for 10 years, I think Lesley knows which notes she can reach properly.

Very nice, but I prefer the “No Other Love” lyrics particularly as performed by Jo Stafford. Perhaps it is because I have heard it for years and it is more familiar, but it seem to fit the music better to my ears.

Guess I should have been a bit more specific (or maybe said nothing at all :)). She "reached" the notes, but her voice was so frail and attenuated at the very end that it almost sounded like falsetto. (By the way, grammatically, your sentence says that YOU are the Royal Academy graduate, but I'm guessing you're talking about Lesley.)
