When you use a “kiai” you don’t say kiai. More like ai, ei or oi. Kiai (Japanese: 気合, /ˈkiːaɪ/) is just a Japanese term used in martial arts for the short shout uttered when performing an attacking move.

Your soto uke stops at the center and will not block anything. Your uke must go past the center. Remember “uke” comes the Word “ukeru” wich means “to receive”. Almost the opposit of blocking. You are redirecting the punch.

@@RGMARTIALARTS I'd say he's talking about joint manipulations, like the stuff in Bunkai. You grab your opponent's arm, pull your hand back to hikite and with the other hand you do for example a Soto Uke at their elbow, screwing up the joint. At least that's how it is in Shotokan bunkai, I dunno about Kyokushin, never trained in it. Maybe I should tho, who knows.

Short answer: its TENSE, RELAX, TENSE. Long answer: thehubedu-production.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/5704/7fad7bdc-19f2-408b-ae49-74deb4c204d6/McGill__double_Peak_in_Muscle_Activation.pdf A scientific study showing many high level fighters with effective speed and power tensing in the beggining, relaxing in the air(acceleration of punch) and then tensing again upon impact.
