Hello, I am a student majoring in civil engineering at pukyong national university in Korea. Through your video, I understood the forces acting on a pile. Then, what is the total moment acting on a pile?

Hi! Thank you for your great question! This video shows how to calculate the force per unit length (lb/ft or N/m) at a given depth (in this example, at the stillwater level, z = 0) and time. In the next lesson (kzitem.info/news/bejne/lZt7lm2to6tkl3o), I give an example to find the total force (lb or N) on the pile and the location of action using Simpson's Rule. There are several ways to numerically integrate the force per unit length, and this is one example. Hopefully this is helpful!

Very helpful thanks. However, fresh water density = 997 kg/m3 ?? maybe this come from several calculations, approximations and conversion to SI.. the value of density for pure water under set conditions (something like 20C, at SWL etc. ) = 1000 kg/m3 per definition, i.e. 1m3 of water is exactly 1000kg. therefore I don't see how fresh water (which contains minerals) can weigh less than 1000kg. Maybe I am missing something

Thanks for this question! Yes, I'm using an estimate for freshwater density assuming 25 degrees Celsius. Certainly, the density of water at a specific site will vary based on temperature, salinity, and other factors. Hopefully that is helpful!
