My personal top tip in learning a language... try to forget you speak English. Don't compare one with the other...or you'll bang your head against things like "A mi, me gusta ...". Don't learn translations, learn Synonyms. So, don't learn "Vaso" as a translation of "Glass". Look at a glass and have two names for it. When you talk....shoot from the hip. Take chances. Go with what feels right and correct. That gut instinct will become more accurate. And why all this? Well, basically it's how infants learn to talk. We ALL have that mechanism. It's just a case of tapping it. p.s. Read kids books and watch cartoons in Spanish (without subtitles). Takes a moment to get over the adult ego part, but it works.

You are such an excellent teacher, QP! I studied Spanish in high school for 3 years in Ontario Cda. Decades later, I am now fulfilling my life long dream to escape CDN winters (and figure out how to move to Mexico permanently. I'm in my first week in Costalegre, Jalisco, Mexico - here for 3 months this time! I began reviewing before I came here with your KZitem lessons in Cda and am finding them so valuable then and here, especially since now I am immersed in Spanish in a small town - so thankful most of the locals don't speak English! I really enjoyed your video sharing how you became fluent. You are such a natural teacher and story teller. I loved that you included that bit about the question your (I think) future father in law asked: "What do you think about how US govt benefits from poorer countries?" My landlords, quickly becoming friends, are helping me express political ideas I have about Cda on our daily walks. And, I will eventually watch more of your wife's and your videos about Mexico and renting, b/c I want to leave Canada and move here permanently. Thank you so much. It would be great if you set up a "tip jar" for ppl who don't want to subscribe/pay monthly, but want to thank you in a practical way for how much your natural, SO helpful lessonS benefit us.

This is a wonderful series. Your approach is different from others and suits my needs very well. I know a little Spanish but I'm rusty. This approach triggers my memory. Your explanations are very practical. They have cemented little grammar rules that I know but too often would forget. Also, from the first lesson, you taught us to compose more complex ideas not found in entry level Spanish. As an adult, those more complex ideas kept me from getting bored. Though, honestly, I have never had the opportunity to say "Do you want to cooperate" in either English, Spanish, or French. :)

Thanks for the positive feedback, John. Creating these lessons is quiet time-consuming, but I know it is worth it when I hear from people like you who are benefitting from them. You made my day. My method of teaching Spanish is the result of my own journey to learn it on my own for work. I had to become conversational as quickly as possible. I struggled like you did, at first, but then I started noticing patterns in the language and that changed everything. I started popping a few phrases in my head in different ways and this allowed me to have conversations in real time. This course is simply the fine-tuned version of all that I have learned.

Hi, Paul I’m Mexican American. I decided to retire in Mexico. I thought, I was bilingual, I always spoke the Spanish spoken in USA. People soon either made fun of me and some correct me. I'm glad I could help. When I moved to Mexico back in 2015, I noticed there were some differences between the Mexican Spanish I was speaking in Florida and the Spanish spoken in Mexico. Shortly after moving, a manager of a beach bar commented that I spoke Spanish like a Mexican who went to the U.S. for several years and then came back. He said their Spanish changes. A lot of it had to do with vocabulary differences and slang that I considered Mexican but was really U.S./Mexican. I then tweaked my Spanish to better fit in in Mexico.

Hi Paul. These lessons are super useful. I cherish them a lot. I have reviewed this particular lesson thrice and each time I found something new: a new perspective. I really value the time you invest to help beginners like myself. I have struggled with learning this language over the years moreso since I lived in the only South American country, Guyana, whose language is predominantly English and I yearned to learn another language. I have often thrown in the towel but now with your recent compilation of lessons to assist beginners as well as your previous series of 34 lessons, I am able to retrieve the towel and continue on my language learning journey. I am glued to this new series of videos. Mil gracias por tu ayuda y espero que sigas continuar con estos videos. espero que sigas

Hi Prof. I have reviewed all five lessons again, not consecutively though. I have just completed review of lesson 5 in preparation for lesson 6 when it comes out and observed that in lesson 4 the greeting " En que le puedo servir" is the formal way of greeting someone in seeking to help that person with some kind of service. The 'le' in that expression is not a pronoun. I have seen this expression before but in reviewing lesson 5 on the use of the D.O the light bulb shone even brighter. Thanks Prof and I eagerly await lesson 6 while continuing to put at work the tools of your previous lessons in conjunction with the lessons on those brief sentence starters. Cabe mencionar que eres un profesor par excelente. A jugzar por tu experiencia estoy en buenas manos. Mil gracias por todas tu ayuda.
