I like how you put things in musical terms..the spelling of the chord, what inversion it is..etc. Others just show where the note is with no musical context or even what the chord is or how it relates to the other chords.

Brilliant..most other versions are rubbish! You play amazing chords..which I'm persevering with... and it is so accurate. You explain the sequences and keep going over them in slo mo so we can see exactly what you're doing. Absolutely fantastic. I might even end up playing this monster of a piece one day. Thank you.

Nice tutorial and thanks! . Sometimes I'll go to a jam and there's always this one Drummer who, as soon as he gets on the kit always warms up with this beat and I'm always at a loss to accompany it because I never learned the tune. Well, tonight, I'll be able to surprise him! I think it's a pretty good approach to always be a little in doubt about how things are really done but deducing the correct way by exploring the other examples before settling in on what works.

great video! great harmony! thank you so much for helping me learning this amazing song I really like the voice leading here, sound like a bach choral. To have a bit better voice leading, i think the second chord should incloud high a, (1st string 5 fret) so I use a diffrenet inversion, (a bit akward one) And in the part going down I also changed a two inversions.

Love your chord choices, really wish I could see what your fretting better. I can't really get, in real time, you describing the breakdown of a chord verbally unfortunately, it would be a snap if I could see what you're fretting. The open fingers mask the fretting ones from this distance and angle.😢 It's just not automatic, front of mind, recall as it for you seasoned grunts. New to guitar here, not new to music theory btw. Need to see your fretwork closer please. I know it's 5 yrs ago, but enjoy your lesson on a great tune.

Great video. I was just wondering, the D#dim7 sounds exactly the same as the B7, or am I missing something? Plz respond. Thanks.
@DavesGuitarChannel
4 жыл бұрын
You are not too far off. The D#dim7 is basically the same chord as a Cdim7. You can look at this as a B7 with a rasied one. So instead of B D# F# A you have C D# F# A. This is a good thing to know because the chord can be treated as a B7 with a raised 1. Of course, the next inversion would be D# F# A C or the D#dim7. I actually am playing the F#dim7 (F#, C, D#, A) on the guitar but because the bass is playing a D# here and is the root, I call it a D#dim7. I hope this helped you. Lastly the B7 chord derives from the key of E being the 5 of E whereas the D#dim7 chord comes from the E harmonic Minor scale... well generally.

Hey Dave, I've been working on 50 Ways and I'm hung up on your B7b9. It is absolutly correct tonaly but everywhere I look it lists it as a D#dim, F#dim, Cdim, D#dim/A, F#dim/A or Cdim/A. It's making me crazy! How do we get a B7 when there is no B in the chord? I hate multiple names for things. Math doesn't have multiple names.
@DavesGuitarChannel
4 жыл бұрын
Ok so the reason they are calling it a diminished 7 chord, and just so you know D#dim7, F#dim7, Cdim7, and Adim7 are all the same chord. The root of the chord denotes the name but technically all the same chord. That being said, any chart that shows that chord where I have the B7b9, they would be wrong. I am right. The Bass is playing the B. The guitar is playing A - D# - F# - C. Together it makes a B7b9. On the guitar, you are playing what is called a Rootless chord or a rootless B7b9. You wouldn't chart it as an Adim7 over a B bass, that would just be silly. The chord is a B7b9.

Sounds decent, but why doesn't anybody just watch Paul Simon when he plays? He doesn't play any chords that high on the neck. Almost every tab has the EmG up on the 5th fret, when he clearly plays it on the 2nd fret with the low G, for example.
@DavesGuitarChannel
4 жыл бұрын
Yes Paul is playing what he plays on the record. There is another guitar on the record that is higher in the mix and that's the part everyone wants to know how to do. It's what you hear on the record most. If you want to play what Paul is playing, there are countless people who already do that. Why would I do that then? I try to make videos that are not obvious parts otherwise I am just another me too mousetrap.
@blairweinberg6279
