This is fabulous. I recently had a blast of inspiration to start practicing guitar again, and this is really helpful. It didn't occur to me that there was a standard pentatonic scale that could be pulled from a melodic minor scale, but it makes total sense, since melodic minor is just one note away from a major scale.

Glad it was helpful! It’s handy also because you probably have the pentatonic vocabulary in you already.. so it’s one less thing to think about! I’m glad you’re having a blast of inspiration and playing guitar again! 🙌

Love a bit of pentatonic superimposition! Is there a similar cheat code if you're on a non-resolving dominant and want to outline lydian dominant by using a pentatonic scale? I could potentially work it out but it would probably give me a migraine 😂

It’s so handy to do! Love superimposing stuff in my playing. Not one specifically as far as I know! That would be nice however 😊 I’ll have a think tomorrow with a fresh head. Hope alls good mate!

great stuff, James. some of your lines contain absolute rhythmic dynamite. i've just transcribed the first two bars of this video. have you ever tried to use tiny bits of Bb minor pentatonic over a static groove in Cm? as if you were playing over a non existent V chord? i guess that would be worth a super useful follow up video! thanks a lot!

Thank you man! Thats cool you’ve transcribed some stuff too! I hope it helps. Great question..! Yes, you can do that- I can explain how to do that in a lesson if you like. You can apply the V chord without it being there, you just have to be careful where to use sometimes 😊

More than anything, Bb pentatonic is the arpeggio of the 3rd degree of G altered scale😃.
