I love watching the ostriches enjoying so many of the vegetables that you have grown in your garden. It is amazing how you can watch as the food travels down their neck enroute to their stomachs. I also love the protection these birds can provide for the goats from the predators which roam in the wee hours of the night looking for an easy meal. It was truly amazing to see what Carl and Tat had done to the fox. I have become such a huge fan of the ostriches for this reason and hope you will always have them there for this reason as well as providing them with their best lives also. 💗

I don’t know what that noise is but it came from the depths of your soul. 😂😂 I love your one liners. They crack me up. I know all the babies love food from the garden. I have such fond memories of fixing magical kale for the 3 kids I helped raise in my family. They loved watching the dull kale turn a bright blue green when I dropped it into the pan of boiling water! They also loved eating it with my lemon butter and lemon pepper seasoning. Yummy~ You crack me up so much Jami! Thank you for making me laugh sweetie!

Maybe you could take an egg from Carl, drill a hole in and drain yolk and white, put it back in and he could set on it for awhile. Give him a little interest for a bit. We have to wait to the very end of May to plant. Then hope it doesn't hail. 😯 You call it, "Giving the birds fresh greens for enrichment", like they say at the zoo. 😀 Cheers 👍💕🌱

So wonderful to see the Ostriches enjoying cabbage in addition to the kale 😊 And I do love Carl - but I have a feeling that this is going to be a long mating season 🙄 I know that Lester has been collecting the eggs - but at some point that should be put in a video package - simply because it's probably as much of a $hitshow now as it was back at the Sanctuary, when you asked him for Uber egg service - remember? And lastly, you were not the only 1 to accidentally hit your head - a little bit ago when I got home from the laundromat, I was putting some stuff in the closet, and for some strange reason, my head jerked to the left, and I partially knocked my head into the sliding wooden door - Ouch! Apparently I really am hard headed 😂! Take care and have a gr-8 night 🌙!

The best gardens are volunteer. I feed the birds normal songbird feed. One year, I kid you not, I had at least 75 huge sunflowers growing all over my back yard. I had some heads that were larger than dinner plates. I was able to let the birds feast on those heads through winter in PA. Plus, it was beautiful. All my neighbors commented about the color. I wish I could send you pictures.

Lester was wondering recently what to do with the back pasture at the Sanctuary. I have been thinking about it, and the answer, I think, is to let the extra ostriches use it. That is, the ostriches that you would have if you allowed Carl to raise some more babies. The ostriches could be guardians for some more rescue animals. For example, you are going to need more donkeys once your two oldest pass on. Just make sure you are not rescuing coyote bait. No sheep or goats. Who knows, maybe there might be some piney woods cows (very gentle) who need rescuing, dairy cows/steers or a mule, maybe even a camel. What do you think of this plan? The principle is to get low maintenance rescues who don't need daily visits. Another option might be to put horses back there. They need maintenance (a lot) but if you let Bri and Stephanie keep their horses back there, at least during the day, they could do the maintenance (:
