Hatsune Miku is more of a platform/instrument rather than just an "artist". She's an instantly recognizable icon and you can do anything with vocally, so anyone can make a "Miku" song, unlike The Gorrilaz which would land you in copyright jail.

That person comes off as having no idea about drumming or musicianship as a whole. They think people's idea of 'good drumming' is "crazy drum solos". They have to break it down to '~this~ is the point of the music!!!' because they have no idea what's being played.

Meg White is a good drummer, very creative. She's just another in a long line of naively ridiculed musicians who are actually brilliant, coming after Travis Barker and Lars Ulrich (though Meg White is obviously not at the level of Ulrich or Barker). Typically comes from the same goofballs who think John Bonham is the greatest drummer of all-time.

Meg White is anti-Lars. Lars doesn't support Metallica's songs because every time he is drumming the songs, they sound different. I don't have anything against Meg. Her drumming was one of those things which made White Stripes songs sound haunting and unique.

I don’t think there’s even an argument . Meg White is in no fathomable stretch of the imagination a good drummer... that being said, The White Stripes wouldn’t be what it was with a “good” drummer... her drumming was just what it needed, and she was perfectly adequate for their music, and more than that, her look, her style, her character, her quirkiness was perfectly suited to be the yang to jack’s yin. Honestly I really can’t even imagine them having a drummer that’s even a little bit more nuanced or detailed or anything that can be considered “good drumming”... the band needed a nice, steady, minimalist, super basic, steady, rhythmic percussion which only serves to compliment and highlight jack’s guitar work, which is in itself pretty simplistic and minimalist in general... I have absolutely no issue with Meg White’s lack of ability. She was perfectly decent enough to make The White Stripes the awesome band what it was, and ended up being a statement and perfect example that a band doesn’t need to be some virtuosic display of impressive ability to be an awesome band, and in many cases, it’s the songwriting over the musicianship that really makes a song... And this is coming from a music fan who was first and foremost a fan of progressive rock in the vein of King Crimson, Yes, ELP, Rush, and so on and so forth when I was young and branches out into all sorts of genres across the entire spectrum of the music landscape. And to be completely honest, back when The White Stripes were first becoming a little bit mainstream, it was back when I was in high school and was still mainly into progressive rock and a lot of metal, as well as some grunge and just starting to get into more artistic and experimental rock that would hybridize with pop and electronic music, I actually hated The White Stripes for the very reason that they were too simplistic. I thought that meant that they were shit. And Meg’s drumming was a huge part in me coming to that conclusion... really before even fixing them a decent chance. But when I finally matured both personally and in my music tastes, I eventually went back to give The White Stripes a decent chance, and found that I was just ignorant and jumped to conclusions through erroneous misconceptions about what made music “good”... and found that I not only liked their music, but really fell in love with a couple of their albums... People just need to learn to open their minds like I was able to, and they’ll find that what they think they might hate without even giving a decent chance they actually really appreciate. And The White Stripes is just about the perfect band for this.

If Meg did indeed fit the band perfectly, then she was an amazing drummer in her own right and would not have been fully recognized for her ability outside a band like the white stripes

Spot on. Anyone disagreeing is too much of a fan boy to see the argument. It's kind of like the drummer threads I'll read about Travis Barker. The Blink fans are junk yard dogs claiming Travis is the best drummer ever. He's a good rock drummer but when you start talking skills behind a drum set you have a very deep hole to travel to label a drummer"great". Which brings me back to White who as you said fits TWS perfectly and they made great music. A drummer can play great music without being a "great" drummer. Music has a long line of players who made great music but weren't great musicians.

I just gotta put that out there: Whoever thinks Meg wasn´t good at drumming didn´t get the White Stripes. There it is. Hate me for it. Sure, what she did wasn´t super flashy, but the White Stripes, as I perceived them, were not so mucb about polish as about sound and raw emotion, and she had a pocket there in that framework, where she took a seat and stayed in there. Unflinchingly. As you will, she nailed the whole thing together, she provided half of the sound, all of the beat and about 60% of the drive. And she never wavered, no matter what Jack was doing. Remember, this was only a 2-person band, so she had no one to rely on, but Jack needed her to get back on board after throwing himself over various railings in his parts. Try doing this, keeping your pocket on the drums while your guitarist is going flat-out crazy, only for 3 minutes, then watch a WS live set, and dare telling me she´s a bad drummer. Ringo frequently was drifting in his beat, speeding up or slowing down, you can hear it on the records. I never heard that with Meg. I heard Jack drop a beat or two from his phrase to get back, but Meg is a lighthouse in a stormy sea.

I think you missed the point about Hatsune Miku. They weren't saying virtual pop stars would take over, but virtual voices (so NOT Gorillaz, programs like Vocaloid, UTAU, LaLaVoice etc.) which seems partially plausible to me. With vocaloid synthesiser technology improving all the time they'll eventually be very close to human voices, and at that point there's pros and cons. You don't have to pay to hire a professional singer or deal with their bullshit and you can tweak the vocals to the exact performance you want, but an artificial voice might lack some emotionality and nuance, and like you say real pop stars will always have more brand recognition to promote the music with than virtual stars who are harder to relate to. Vocaloid is already seeing some minor mainstream usage though and I think it's an interesting prospect for future music.
