Hello my friend! I was very surprised when I saw the same moto dog as mine. We have a very widespread brand in Russia. We use a snow dog for trapping and fishing. But it doesn't walk in very large snow, falls on its side. The wider the belt and the longer the base, the easier the snow dog rides. Less than 15 horsepower does not make much sense to use. In Russia, the snow dog is not a vehicle by law, you do not need to pay tax and you do not need to have a driving license. You can also move around. on the ice of reservoirs. Fuel consumption is very low. This is a very good thing. I look forward to the results of your work!

How do you like yours? The engine I bought is 14 horse...I hope it is enough! I am worried about it not being wide enough. If it tips over too easy, I think I'll put outrigger skis on the sides like they do some of those ocean canoes. The model he has, and yours, is being sold here in the USA now, imported from Russia. I don't think you need to license it here either from what I was told. Since it is a towing vehicle, and you don't ride it, it is not considered a vehicle.....yet.

@@MuskratOutdoors I am very satisfied. My line of traps would be inaccessible without this dog. The engine for 14 horses is quite enough. The snow dog helps a lot to get to remote reservoirs, since it is forbidden to move on our car on the ice. The snow dog easily enters my van entirely, I do not need a trailer. Three men and some things, this unit is quite easy to move long distances. In Russia I bought it for about $ 1300, it is quite cheap.

I've been gathering parts for about two years now. Since we haven't had as much snow as usual, what we do have is ice. I've been frustrated not being able to get anywhere to trap, so I jumped into this. This is more of a Summer thing to have ready to go by winter, but it didn't work out that way. You should get back to yours! Really, this is going together pretty easy for the most part.

You probably don’t do the Facebook thing but there is a group called “Track sled builds of the North” and it’s all for folks building snow dog’s, some good ideas on that page! Some guys shorten tracks by using a lap joint others do it by adding a backing piece of belting and either way works good with the “power” these machines have.... gearing also comes into play and most shoot for around a 12mph top end... some folks just run sprockets and hub adapters on the original drive shaft and others use the snowmobile chain case and adapt to it with a Jack shaft setup off the comet clutch with a chain... The custom frame setup is the best way to go and you are on the rite path, most all builds ive seen completely lock out the suspension and it’s much simpler that way. Plan ahead tho, the small 4 stroke motors have tons of vibration and they rattle everything apart even the motor itself... Can’t wait to see this thing come together, I’ve been wanting to build one for a few years now but can’t seem to find the rite donor machine

Thank you very much for the info! I'm not a facebook fan.....too many liberals on there that make me mad! Ha! I'll look into this though for sure! I'm almost done with this. I hope it will work. I put a piece of rubber belting under the engine, I hope that will help? I ended up not shortening the original track. It seems kind of long, so steering might be tough.

@@MuskratOutdoors The only way you’ll know is to give it a run 😁 Most folks who build these things make a few changes before they call em done, common issues are the handle bars being a little too bendy when you need to muscle it around and as I said the vibration.... carry some spare nuts and bolts an you’ll be fine I’m sure 👍 Can’t wait to see it run 😀
