😅 Man ey! Will so gern endlich ein neues anfangen. 😭

Hooray that running is going well! I have not been able to run lately. My body is just not cooperating. So it is walking for me for now and I just need to be ok with that. My February has been weird too. I am accomplishing some things, but feel dissatisfied. Not even sure what I am dissatisfied about exactly. Weird. 🤦🏼♀️ Maybe I need more sunshine! 😎

Sunschine is always the answer for me. Sorry to hear running isn't going well, maybe in spring again :)

I have similar struggles with big books, even ones I enjoy. They just feel like a chore, because once started, I "have to" finish them and when I've read the same book for a week and haven't even reached page 200, it's very demotivating. I realize I spend too little time reading (usually 20-30 minutes in the morning before I go for a run) but I also realize that I'm currently not able, nor willing to read for hours. Sadly, there's no dopamine hit in reading without finishing at least a chapter. 😞

Yes, that. Having a daily reading habit is great, though and guarantees some progress. Go you!

About big books; I recently attempted to read Barbra Streisand's memoir, which is a huge book and found it was too repetitive for me to continue. On the other hand; my favourite book of last year was The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese, which is around 800 pages is a book I absolutely FLEW THROUGH and to be honest, I could've read more. SO, for me it isn't so much about the page count or size of a book, its more about the content. I also read The Goldfinch in no time at all, and it was a big book also. So yeah. I try to not let myself be inhibited by the size of a book. I recently got The Bee Sting by Paul Murray, also a big book, but I understand its really compelling so I'm going to forge ahead and hope for the best. lol.

Well said, compelling big books are so much fun to spend time with. I'll have to look up Covenant of Water, have not heard of it.

I seem to reach about 40 books a year. I wanted to try 50 this year, but I gravitate towards books over 400 pages or a classic. These take longer, so .. shrug .. it is what it is. :)

So true, Classics are big and rarely fast paced. Good to hear you still enjoy them and resist the numbers game!

@@1book1review Some people do a page count average for the year. So if you set your average book to say 300 pages you divide the total pages read by that to get the number of books read. That may work better for me if I really cared :)

I like tracking pages and minutes, mostly for months. However, as a goal it doesn't work for me. I like to see if I read my usual, less or more. It does help not feeling sad when I read less books than average in a month if I read the average pages/minutes.

Yeah, I feel like I read less and less big books as time goes on. Part of it I fully admit is a desire to get through more books, but also as others in the comments (and you!) said the more time you spend on them, the more they seem to drag. Plus you forgot what happened at the start so it feels like you lose context too.

OMG yes, I hardly remeber details of the beginning and sometimes even forget characters if they showed up at the beginning and return chapters later. I think I just want to be able to read all the time, a book in one sitting sounds perfect (and so unrealistic for bigger books :D)

I'm so bad with big books.. While obviously there are exceptions, but often, even when they are enjoyable, I jsut get tired of them after a while and I just want to read something else.. And while I do read multiple books at the same time, I do always try to have one "main" book, but with big books they jsut take too long and I end up reading more other stuff in between and then just kinda lose interest in going back to the big book..

And there goes the multiple books would solve this problem theory. Reading multiple books for me usually looks like putting one aside to read another and then go back to it.
