In the early 60's, we would go to a local amusement park. Friday night was coke a COLA night and we take our bottle caps to pay for the rides. There as a famous ballroom when the big bands would play there but in the 60's rock n roll bands played. I was in my preteens then and this band would play Hang On Sloopy they were The McCoys. The dance craze was the STOMP. Packed ballroom stomping to the beat of Hang On Sloopy. Best time of my life.

This song was so popular that Chris's band was the headliner at shows in the United Kingdom, about 1962. This song was almost a forerunner to modern Pop and Rock music. The opening act was a growing, wannabe popular group called the Beatles. The Beatles had only released a few not very big or very popular single records by then. No albums. One of Chris's high school friends was Brian Wilson. Chris later helped out the Beach Boys with some of their songs. Chris also went to a Ritchie Valens concert to hear his idol sing, and actually accidentally bumped into and talked to Valens during a break at the show. A charmed life indeed !

The way it should be, no room for the corona here and all the way through the disco Era people like to cut the rug, boogie, groove, ya know dance, dance, dance. 6 foot social distance very impersonal to say the least. I'm ready for the dance stuff again, and I can't dance

@@rogertopp3551 Yes. I was just a wee babe in the disco era but I remember the 80s pretty well and I was a teen and in my early 20s in the 90s and remember dancing to electronic music in a crowded room and partying all night long. Ah the College years! Youth is beautiful but unfortunately it fades away and you have to be content with your memories and in seeing, with some envy, some youth pass by with his girlfriend or boyfriend holding hands over to some little place.... but again kids these days seem to be obsessed with their phones and I fear soon after this pandemic goes away will end up hooked too. Bring back the 80s and 90s!

Fact is, sure.....some dancers were better than others..and kind of featured...but every day dancers were on the show. No big special thing about getting on really. I was 16 in 1965, and went on many of the shows. I have to watch a lot of YTs to find every one I might have gone on....so many shows back then..impossible to find them all. Amazing times.

when we went to dances on friday and saturdays in the fifties and sixties everybody could dance, even the tough guys. it was a way to meet people and socialize. we didn't have cell phones to entertain us.

Denis Lessard I'll bet! It's sad to see kids nowadays with their faces glued to those damn cell phones, they're missing out on real life. I was born in 58, so I did'nt get to experience the 50s and 60s as a teenager but I do remember the 60's quite well as a kid. Best time I think to grow up as a kid and be a teenager during the 70's just my own opinion. :)

@@davesmith1199 Hi Dave. I saw that tour too at Walthamstow Granada just 2 months later but but by then the Beatles had grown too big to be the intended support act so they closed the show. I was wrong about the first date, both shows were in early '63. Roy was relegated to support by then. BTW the support act didn't 'open.' There would be several other good acts that appeared as well. We Brits wanted a lot for our money back then. Roy didn't seem to mind. He was good but he would have had problems following the Beatles. Can't tell you how the Beatles performed. We never heard a note for all the screaming. It was deafening! I was just 21 years old but felt quite old!
