That's the drawback of meds. It's always a trade off.... benefits vs side effects or risk. It sounds like she's just beginning to look into muscle relaxers, but I'm sure it's trick if you're going to be using them long term. I think she's smart to more or less shop around to see which one works best for her, and ... it might turn out that, like you, none of them are worth it.

What works best for me: -asian energetic techniques like meridians massages or acupuncture -cardiac coherence, meditating, EFT -osteopathy -stretching (prevents muscles to get tighter and tighter throughout the day) -anything with water: from a simple shower, swimming pool, hot baths, sauna, to balneotherapy. -I get the chance to get weekly rTMS session to reduce neuropathic pains (also helps to get a better quality of sleep) -taking time for my body and soul is always good time spent (reading a book in a peaceful part of nature, meditating, drawing,...) To anyone struggling suffering, hang on! You're not forgotten, you're not alone, right now lots of people are thinking about you and praying for you, stay strong! Peace everyone

I found a pair of stretch booties on Amazon - Hubby has to help me get into them but that is my time to just sit and read while wearing them. (2 Pack Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint, Upgrade 3 Adjustable Straps Plantar Fasciitis Relief Night Splint for Women & Men, Relief Brace for Plantar Fasciitis Relief, Achilles Tendonitis and Foot Drop (Purple)) I use Muscle relaxers when I travel but have to be careful with dosage so I do not get too floppy. And to keep moving I just ordered a rowing machine. It is one of the few "workout machines" I can use without falling off. Other than that I find that a super hot soak in a bath right before bed helps to keep me from kicking the crap out of hubby while trying to sleep. I agree the pain of CP does get worse as you get older but we can not stop moving.

Do research into using the hormone precursor pregnenolone for Parkinson's. A possible starting dose would be 100mg per day. If you are in the USA you may be able to buy it as a supplement and save doctors bills. The postive effects will build up over the months as you take it. Pregnenolone can rebuild the myelin sheathing on nerve cells and sort out the tangles in the cells associated with Parkinson's.

As you get older, your muscles will get a bit more fragile too. It's important for everyone to keep supple but we who suffer muscle-spasm, more so. Thank you for your encouragement and your regime. Take it easy and be gentle on yourself. On the medical side, I am prescribed a muscle-relaxant called Zanaflex(Tizanadine). They're not DIazepam but they have a muscle relaxing effect. Keep the Diazepam for the bad days. Quinine is a Muscle Relaxant and used in Tonic Water for having with Gin! Not for me. 😎 Years ago, I got a session of traction and I'm the only person the Physio's had ever seen fall asleep in traction, it was such a relief against the tightness in my back. Early Days! All The Best.

Those all sounds like very practical advice, not only for yourself and those with CP, but for anyone who struggles with muscle tightness, which is often not even realized. My first thought was muscle relaxers, but then thought maybe you used other methods to avoid taking them, especially long term, and in general just trying to avoid meds if possible. Happy to hear you're trying some out, and if the side effects or interactions are minimal, that could be very helpful. Massage. Yes please. I'm sure that could be of benefit, at least hort term, but... masseuses charge for their services. Being able to afford massage on a regular schedule, unless it's medically prescribed and covered by insurance, can be daunting. I LOVE massages, but can't justify it very often. And of course, "move it or lose it", still holds true.

I've been on a medication called Cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) since my 20's for Sciatic nerve pain in both my legs now. I find it does relax the muscles so the nerve isn't pinched. It does help me sleep too. I have muscle tightness as well but not for the condition you have. I have had no bad side effects from this med. I've been on it almost 20 years. I would talk to my doctor though because I would never recommend a medicine to anyone who didn't. Hope that helps. Hope you find the right one for you.

Chelse, consider taking magnesium. It's the supplement that relaxes muscles during movements whereas calcium tells your muscles to restrict. About 2 years ago I (also have CP) started taking magnesium, I noticed a shift in good direction (while not a 100% cure obviously) with my muscles and sleep. If you try magnesium glycinate, it goes to your brain more and helps you sleep and less anxiety. If you try magnesium malate, it will more go into muscle building/repair. Just having the magnesium is benefit for your muscles. These 2 have higher absorbance in your stomach while there are other magnesium forms that have low absorbance ratio and make you have to "go". They say an adult male should take 300-500 mg per day. Ladies are slightly less. Start off slow and see how much your lower stomach can handle without having to run to the toilet.

I use one now that does not effect parkinson, which works well for me with both tightness and cramping. Exercise is the best medicine keep moving!! Massage works well!! Stretching is important!!! I always used to take 10mg, until a few years ago, when the said taking 5mg has about the same effect as the 10mg, but without the groggy side effects. I take it as needed. When I do, I take the 5mg during the day and the 10mg at night

I've been struggling with this the last 10 years or so mainly due to a back injury from a car accident. My CP is harder to manage now because of the back injury and can't move or hardly keep my balance. I take Robaxin 750mg 3x day along with Ibuprofen 800 3x day. I also take .50mg Xanax 3x day for that and anxiety and jumpy/startles. It helps somewhat, but not like a few beers does. My medical insurance doesn't cover all my PT. Idk if it covers massages, but I do use a TENs unit on my back and legs.

I’m not sure what to say about the muscle relaxants. Once when I was in college, I hurt my back and they put me on muscle relaxants. They seem to work well for me, but it was a totally different case. I would consult thoroughly with more than one physician before committing to taking muscle relaxants on a regular basis. The rest of your routine sounds pretty sound and I’m sure it will be helpful to you. May you be successful in all that you do.

And driving was a no no. However after taking them for a week or so I was able to decipher what I could do and I would take half of a pill instead of the whole pill so it eased my body good enough to do my daily activities without being overly tired. I’m not really sure of the side effects however you can do some research see if it would be a good fit for u good luck on ur journey ❤❤❤
