The belt turned out very pretty, and it looks like it could be a fun way to make all kinds of trims to sew on too, never though of macrame for that before ❤😊. My mind is forever filled with the horrors of the macrame owls that one other commenter mentioned... so I've never looked into it properly before. Though my dad ( who used to be a sailor) did sailors rope work and I have several of his books with many interesting projects. Belts, bag handles, coasters, rugs and so on.

OMG your dad’s rope work book sounds amazing!!! It’s funny, ever since making this video I’ve noticed macrame everywhere- I was walking past a Zara store the other day and they had dresses with macrame fringe trim in the window. So many different uses for it that I hadn’t imagined either. Thank you so much!

I took macrame classes when I was a kid. Do I remember anything? No, I do not, but did make a whole plant hanger.

I learned macrame in the 70s. I can make a spiffy plant hanger with the basic knots. I have several friends who can make fancy, elaborate wall hangings. I never wanted a huge wall hanging so didn’t bother learning the more elaborate knots and patterns. I love your belt ❤ simple yet beautiful

I think this book was pretty popular! We had a ton of macrame plant hangers growing up, and I definitely appreciate them a lot more now- I’m wondering if I have enough of the cord leftover from this project to make one…

I can't believe you're a procrastinator. You always amaze me with the patience and diligence you put into your very intricate and labor-intensive endeavors. Have to admit that I found the book's written instructions very confusing. But you persevered and made it look easy. Can hardly wait to see this upcoming project!

Aw thanks! I heavily procrastinate certain things- like taking the first step in trying something new. Love learning new things, just get super intimidated 😬

I think once you know some macrame you have to make a horrible owl wall hanging. That’s my single abiding memory of my mother and her friends learning macrame; they all made and willingly displayed in their homes the same horrible owl. It’s like a blood pact or something

🤣 Definitely remember the owls. Ceramic ones too.

Hahaha- a blood owl pact is maybe the best thing I’ve heard all week. Every time I typed macrame anything into Google I got a VERY specific macrame lion head wall hanging as the top result.

Ha- I feel owls had a second renaissance in the 2010s. Coincidence? Definitely not.

I learned macrame from a 70's craft bokk in the 1970's so the answer is yes!

They're so good! I think we get caught up in the stylistic differences now, but really this book is incredible.
