you can add about a 1/2 cup of Cow/Stear manure compost to get the salt and minerals. I also run a drip line with 1 drip to it and I don't have to remember to add water. Ocean Beach sand has all the salt you need

...............Question: I have beach sand that's been in a sealed, airtight container for a few years, is that safe to use?
@mymainegardens
3 ай бұрын
That should be absolutely fine. Some suggest using play sand if you don’t have access to beach sand. So this should work. You can add some salt (not table) mineral (I use sea salt) to add nutrients and/or some manure mixed in. Good Luck and thanks for being here!

Just found your video & while I love it, it is illegal to take sand from any beach and bring it home.

Marie..thank you so much for pointing that out! The sand I used is from our private property and there is a lot of it. That said, you are correct. As I mention in the video you can also use store bought sand or stones. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Deb

Does the sand wash out of the saucer when it rains ?

Great question! I would check it after a hard rain or place it somewhere out of the rain …but my experience is the sand absorbs most of it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Very good layout. You can just sprinkled the salt on top of the sand. When you add water it will dissolve. Also if you have any composted manure, spread (dust) a little on the top. It provides more minerals.
