Fallon, I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this video. I love full tutorials and so few do it. I am definitely going to make this. And you did a few things that were really helpful to me. I'm 72 and I've been quilting since the 90's and you taught me a couple of things. I am pattern dyslexic and that contributes to how much I dislike the diagonal finish that is usually done to connect the ends of the binding. After watching you, I'll never do it again. Thank you. Please keep doing videos like this. I love Kris too. She also has a 10" square hourglass quilt that I want to make.

This was a brilliant tutorial and I loved seeing the whole process from start to finish. This was especially useful because it was a large quilt and being able to see how you managed the layers when sandwiching and basting it. Also how you manage the weight and bulk when quilting it on a domestic machine. So many tutorials only focus on piecing the quilt top together. It was really good seeing the whole process. I’m not surprised you did a small charm square version first, doing those cuts must have been nerve wracking, even after doing the mini version.

I agree, Fallon: quilting does not have to be fast. Quilting is a creative process and it misses the point if you try to fly through it. That said, the quilt I’m working on now has too many 1.5-inch pieces and that becomes pretty tedious. So I just remind myself that (a) the quilt is for me so I can take as long as I need to, and (b) it’s the PROCESS that’s important. So as I’m pressing tiny seams open with my little Clover iron, I just recognize that this is all part of it. Finally, I’m working with gorgeous pink and red fabric so that also makes the process a joy. Thanks so much for this detailed video. It really was fun!

I love this Argyle quilt pattern and I'm going to bookmark your video. It is really nice to have all the processes in one video. Did you do any other quilting within the squares? What are your thoughts on "must quilt every 4 inches to secure sandwich together"?

Thank you! I tend to following the quilting requirements for the batting I am using. The batting required 10 inches. So I didn’t do any more quilting within the blocks.

I❤ this quit… a big project yes but worth the effort .. I like all the steps you showed too .. makes a great start to finish process to view .. but only wish you could have shown after the finish quilting how you squared the quilt off and cut the excess backing and batting etc out to get the finished edge to attach binding so neatly .. that’s my biggest struggle .. where to cut ???
@sewbeitquilts

I honestly don't square my quilts. I just cut right next to the quilt top. I'll show what I do in my next big tutorial. It isn't the "proper" way to trim up the quilt. It is not quilt police approved! lol.

Surprised to see you join the binding strips with a straight seam. The diagonal seam really reduces a bulky bump in the binding, and I feel it is less intrusive. A beautiful quilt, nevertheless. I have been looking for a pattern for a dear friend of Irish descent with a family tartan. - this is just the thing!

I don’t enjoy finishing the quilt binding with the diagonal seam. I have never quite figured out that finish so that it lays perfectly flat. It’s pretty fussy for me and I usually have to unsew it and redo it to get it right. My method isn’t for everyone and that is ok.

I truly enjoyed your tutorial. I like argyle too. I had the same problem getting on the floor with my first large quilt. One side came out unevenly. Thanks for all your tips. Looking forward to seeing more of your tutorials.

Floor basting is tough. I taped it to the floor and one side didn't want to stay in place. It was a mess.

Wow! I enjoyed seeing all of the steps in this one. I’m quite sure I would have been confused with just a pattern to guide me. It turned out great! The charm pack version is super cute too. Thanks for the tutorial Fallon!

Wonderful tutorial. I have gone to pin basting my quilts because for some reason the basting spray gums up the needle on my long arm and I break a lot of needles Thank you for this wonderful video

I have noticed my needles getting all gummed up from the spray baste. I know that method works for some people and that is great! I just couldn’t get it to work for me.

Great tutorial Fallon!!! I've made the picnic quilt a few times and love how easy it is to get that on point look without having to think so hard. I love how you quilted it too. The smaller version is really cute. For sure going on my quilts to make list. Thanks for sharing.

I loved watching this quilt. Is there anyway that the diamonds can be sewn at an angle so it doesn’t have to be cut so much? I’ve not made a quilt before, but I’d love to do so. I fell in love with this one. If I made a quilt I’d like it to be a bedspread quilt. I have a queen sized bed, extra high off the floor. Thank you so much for sharing!

What is the batting, it looks so smooth and comfy for a large quilt. Can’t wait to try this as I have used Jenny’s video to make a couple with the charms.
