just wanted to say that I have been watching your channel for a few weeks now and have been using your videos exclusively for terrain building for bolt action. I never thought I would have such a great time making my own terrain. I have even gotten my 6 yr old daughter involved. thank you for everything you have created and taken the time to teach. I have shared your techniques numerous times and have referred many of my friends to your channel. keep it up and thank you again. cant wait to try this one out.

Nice one, Mel! So many cool things you can do with these led-candles. (I put one inside an obelisk that I had cut all kinds of runes into)

If you want a firmer smoke cloud, you can take some matte spray varnish and give it a few coats of that as well.

you can buy a huge bag of poly stuffing for cheap at your local craft or sewing shop. If you happen to keep aquariums, you can use the leftover in your filter.

Suggestion: ad a bit of aluminum foil to the top of the tealight around the led, will double your light output upwards.

Very late, not sure if youll see this, but thank you sir. Been messing with wireless induction leds and they are insane. This is better than cotton wool..thanks again..(haha yours kinda looks like Kramer.

Very nice tutorial, but if you dont have polyfill material or steel wool you can also use cotton balls. A friend and I did one like this but we used cotton balls for our plume of smoke and since we were doing a camping scene we took some grain-o-wheat lights for model trains and ran the wiring under our landscape from the bonfire to the power switch. Then with a very thin coat of red paint covered the bulb to glow more red. Then we glued the cotton balls to the wood sticks for the bonfire and then lightly dry brushed the blacks, grays, reds, yellows and oranges to show the glow of the fire underneath and the dark smoke colors. As you said the paint helps to keep the polyfill from fraying to much and helps to stiffen it, which the dry brushing does the same thing also.

I had an idea. You could use a dye to color the fiberfill before spray painting so that the color gets more into the inside areas of the fiber. I was curious so I put a few drops of black food coloring in water and dunked some fiberfill in. After squeezing out the water and letting it dry, the clump of fiberfill ended up a little bit gray rather than white. It seems to me this is an avenue you can pursue, experimenting with different colors and different strengths of dye. Inks might work well also.

Another great vid Mel, thank you. I've made these with two flickering LEDs (yellow and red) which is great but complicated, but didn't think of spraying the bottom as well. That looks really good.

why did you say an airbrush would be worse for this? airbrush is way better than a spray can in everything ive used it for due to the great control of pressure and amount of paint applied to the piece.
@TheTerrainTutor

Thinners mate, the water in airbrush paint screws the polyfibre up with it being plastic, hence primers work better

Hey Mel, some time ago you mentioned in one of your videos featuring natural cork that the fungus that grows on it can be toxic. I think my brother in law may have inhaled some, and I would like to provide his doctors with some information on this. because they have never heard of it. I have searched for hours and can't find anything. Its always about cork flooring or cork used for wine.
