You don't need to use Colonial service for big ships, that only makes quote: "the ship count as 1.25 times its actual tonnage as far as meeting the requirements for overseas service. So a 4,000 ton CL would count as 5,000 tons for example. It doesn't affect how long a ship can operate in an ocean zone unsupported, range does that". I'd like to see a battle, where you'd gonna run out of those 170 rounds for 10in guns...

I am aware, again, that was mostly for flavour. I plan to relegate the older battleships to the colonies and as such, they should be designated for that. One will go to Africa, one to Bismarck Archipelago and one I still need to decide. Regarding ammo it really depends. 100 is definitely too little, 150 I consider a minimum, 200 optimal. I can't say I ever ran out of 200 before but some battles can take a while. I mean you know, you played this game and the previous ones way more than I did. I had cruisers shooting at each other while sailing parallel for hours, missing every shot with chances around 0.6% to hit.

@@Alfapiomega well, that's why you have torpedoes early on on basically every ship ;) Good to know you know, so let's just leave it for others. I think I never got over 140 rounds for main guns on B/BBs :) CA/CLs with smaller guns, sure. I usually knifefight at the closest range possible just outside of torp range and get closer if I see an opening. But I'm playing on the difficulty to use torpedoes manually, but AI seems to launch torps decently for you. Guns are usually for show early on :)

I doubt I used ships for raiding, maybe when I had enough and got bored. Also using anything but KE for trade protection would be wasteful AF.

I tend to roleplay this a lot. I like to put some good light ships, like good cruisers or even a heavy cruiser that I don't need, on raiding. The game then tends to put them into positions where they can actually sink enemy shipping during battles or even do some heavy damage on enemy trade protection, if you are lucky. Once my heavy cruiser sank four light cruisers and several trade ships this way, giving me an insane score boost. Another time I spend a few days dodging enemy heavy ships with a light cruiser before I was able to get our of range and end the battle. It can be fun to not be entirely optimal sometimes :)

From a experienced player of Rule the Waves (1,2,3). In further reworks loose the underwater torpedo tubes on CA and higher - it can and it will, cause torpedo explosion causing your ships to break in half.

Cool.👍👍 Sorry dude but an idea that i do not know if it is possible: scout submarines(basically the best sonar tech to look for units).

Good idea but its too early for subs

While a good idea, the submaries are a little bit different here. You can't really use them for stuff like scouting, they can be pretty much put into only three settings - hunt merchants, hunt merchants and warships and unrestricted warfare. Based on that they will cause damage to merchant shipping (give you score) and enemy fleets while increasing blockade and potentially increase tensions (i.e. unrestricted warfare can easily mean you sink a neutral ship).

Not building Dock - took you only 3 months. Not increasing Research up to max 12%. I thought we're playing Germany as a tech leader not some backwater country :P Having all ships active is kind of a waste of funds imho. Why were you surprised by the monthly funds and length needed to build that ship, you designed it? :D

It might be a waste, but I also don't want to game the game. Roleplay is a key to my enjoyment and we are playing The Kaiserliche Marine! Our sailors will be drilled, fed and our ships we'll maintained. None of this oriental nonsense! It's not a surprise, more of a sigh as everything costs money all the time. Why can't we have cheap, nice things?
@BlooodRaven

Besides if you put most of your fleet in reserve you will start with the ships with crew quality below average or just abysmal (so dont count on any hits on target). Its always good to have active fleet, not only for a RP point of view. Crew quality dictates almost everything, from scoring a hit to repairing ship damage during fight and its crucial for early ships where focus is on human aspect of the ship than electronic aspect of the ship. And as a true excel simulator game you can see it in game, seen it and experienced it in Rule the Waves 1 through 2 to 3.

@@BlooodRaven I played all 3 RtW games. In the first 20 years the crew is useless in gunnery anyway and it's much better to just knife fight with torps. Yes, later the gunnery is felt if the crew is bad/good. Also at the game beginning and me playing mostly with small fleets every dolar counts and cannot just afford to have the whole fleet in ready.

@@azirus Yes if you control every ship. Players are in the reins of the Great Admiral, who doesnt care about little dinky ships, he gives orders to fleets controlled by the commanders of capital ships, and you should play as it if you want full experience. Controlling everything is easy mode, taking the real fun and experience out of it, and it seems Alfa agrees with this statement.

Prinz Heinrich CA is a good light ship hunter but I'd expect this gun setup (lot of smaller guns) on CLs. Also the ships having deck armor 2-3inch is just laughable since basically nothing at that time can even penetrate 1inch of deck armor :)
@Alfapiomega

Yup, the game seems to favor deck armor too much in my opinion. I tend to put max 1 inch, 2 - 3 for battleships. But what do we know, maybe later it will save us when an early bomber appears out of nowhere :)
