A couple bits of advice for the early game: if an objective isn't time-sensitive, you may want to reload at Starbase 12 (especially after the Tevron mission). Power management can also be a bit painful if you fight too long at boosted power, but Starbase 12 recharges energy too (or just sit there at green alert for a bit). Tractor beams drain main batteries directly. [Spoiler-light] Also, if you hypothetically encounter Romulans, hit the engines and cloak; they can't exactly maneuver that quickly. Glad you picked admiral difficulty, ships are a lot more natural in their performance that way (although it makes the early Galaxy missions that much harder). Cardassians especially die too easily otherwise.

Another game I bought back in the day and still have the CDs for. I remember reading previews about it in PC Zone magazine, and they actually asked the developers about the tactical console being different. Their "in universe" answer is the LCARS computer system enables bridge consoles to be allocated to any station to the bridge the captain wants them to be. Think Jellico barking his early orders to Riker about aft bridge consoles being dedicated solely to tactical, and ditching all the science stations.

Damn, the galaxy class model is more detailed than all the character models. The primary hull is rounder than Picard's head. The tutorial does have an 'Automated phone service' feel. "If you wish to open the tactical interface, press 1"

1:25 What are those things in orbit of the planet? 6:38 There are a number of things about the Sovereign-class. One thing that rubbed me the wrong way was how in the first movie where we see the USS Enterprise-E Captain Picard already refers to her as home while we as the audience have just met her. It's like calling someone your wife on your first date. Another problem is that the ship kept getting refitted throughout the movies, while that makes sense from an in-universe perspective with the Dominion War going on, it makes it so that you don't get a feeling of what the ship is supposed to be capable of. With the Galaxy-class you know that it has got 2 torpedo launchers. We know the limitations and that makes it "real". You never know the limitations of the Sovereign-class because it is not a real ship. It is what the plot, or a specific scene, needs it to be. 24:03 I'd want the 3D model for the deep space stations first. (Which a fan has already made.) 30:35 I personally wanted a place in "A Final Unity" where you could do war game exercises with a Zakdorn consultant. How does that sound to you?

Cool, the shipmodels away ahead of klingon academy. But the battle interface is clunky und nervous...

I think the clunky intro you mentioned at 12:16 could have been avoided by simply having Patrick Stewart say that he is "sorry for what happened to your previous captain and will be available to help you settle into the new role". It could have explained why he was on the ship giving orders and make introducing you to the new crew (that he may have personally chosen for you, I really don't get why he personally introduces your First Officer) less forced. I guess that was sort of implied in the cutscene, but they could have done with explaining things more.

Good cinematic intro - particularily the shots when the Galaxy class is in 'dry dock'... And as others have pointed out, as soon as picard opens his mouth....yikes!

Grethon Tolar was not a Bolian though (the one that Garak killed), but that episode was insanely good. :)

Dont think Ive ever head "Its too much like a sports car" as a downside before... lol. The Sovereign continues and evolves the design language started by the Excelsior-class. Where as the Galaxy continued and evolved the design language of the Constitution-class (before the Neo Constitution took several steps backward). The perfomance of your game seems far better than mine...

If you're having issues with poor performance (especially if the framerate is extremely low) it MAY be down to your PC's "uptime", which STBC uses to run its simulation. On newer PCs the "uptime" doesn't reset upon shutting down if your PC has "fast boot" enabled. A standard restart should reset it.

a severe etiquette mistake. onboard any ship there could be only one Captain. others are by courtesy appelled as Commodore, or graciously "promoted" and called "rear admiral" if they are old enough (and Picard is a rear admiral for permanent ranks since he lost enterprise d)
