We continue to grow! In more ways than one. After a successful start and getting the basic needs sorted out, it's come to begin planning for a sustainable colony.
Really appreciate you not editing out the planning phases and talking through your thought process.

Maybe it’s because I live in southern Alberta and our agriculture relies on irrigation, but I use explosives to dig canals and place a water dump on them. It can turn a large portion of the map green with minimal water impact. Sometimes I will connect it to the river with a floodgate to ensure it remains easy to manage the water required to be hauled into the canal/water dump

Once you get crops going, you really do not need berries at all as that species of beaver.

You have already made a vast difference in the success of my playing! I liked the satisfactory content, but burnt out on that a long time ago. Glad to see you here, at about the same time I started playing.

just a quick observation; if you want a 7x7 internal, the external footprint should be 9x9

Ah yes. So because everyone was just cheating, they removed the watertower and fixed the thing with the levees and the single block of water and water dump.
