seriously, that last weekend of national finals gave me three favourites- Sweden, Iceland and Portugal - there is something so blissful about Maro's vocals and her tone! plus I'm a sucker for beautiful harmonies (which this song is filled with) and there's definitely an elevation when she and her backing singers switch to Portuguese, such a beautiful language and I'm glad you mentioned Salvador Sobral's comments from 2017 (and he said similar things during the 2018 interval) - a lot of the music I love has a real performance element to it but that doesn't make it soulless; music can be fireworks as well as feeling

It will qualify for sure. After years of covid, and the longing for peace and memory for who we lost, that is so needed these days, this song brings a sense of relaxation, human simplicity and coherence to current times. A bit of friendship around a fire, with red wine and good memories... If it will win, well... not sure.. It would really be a representation of our desire for peace, past, present and future... But, we know people... so I bet many will possibly go back to fun and business as usual, as we used to have in the past... (and we're all so needing it too) ...even if it's all but a wish (since we're on the verge of a world war.. how crazy that may be), but hey let's see! If having fun wins, I would bet on Spain.. That amazing woman is a Super Star! :) Thanks for your review... It was quite a good one! ;)

The beautiful opens the door to what normally, in the midst of low-level banality, is neither seen nor heard. But when the invisible has been seen and the inaudible and its beauty heard, everything is transfigured and reconciled. This world becomes another, without ceasing to be this one. "Saudade, Saudade", opens us to the experience of the divine. 🎼🎶♥️ Obrigada, querida Maro!!

This song is gorgeous!! Pure feeling, simplicity, relatability and yet a phenomenal vocal work. I tend to agree with Salvador Sobral, sometimes. We see mostly more of the same, vocal power, high notes, screams, dance and when you hear such soothing voices it takes you to another place. Of course this is my opinion. I get tired sometimes because the spectacle draws your attention from the essential: the message, the feeling. And this is what this song brings me: nothing draws my attention from what the girls are saying, their message. Kudos to Portugal 🇵🇹
@JarydReacts
2 жыл бұрын
At the same time, while you have that connection, other people do find connection to the power they see on stage, the high notes, the dancing, the performance etc. It is just as valid as stripped back singing. That was the issue with Salvador's message, he disregarded all other styles that weren't his own. Music is feeling and it is subjective, it's down to the audience who decides what it is to them 🤗
@joselembo4661

@@JarydReacts yes, I agree with you. That is why I emphasized that “sometimes” I agree. Sometimes the song is just a great pantomime, with no implicit message. Not my intention to disregard any kind of musical expression. When it hits me (and as you say, this is subjective), it doesn’t matter the form, but the message they carry. In the end we are “on the same page” 😊🙌🏼🙌🏼

I think people don't understand what Salvador meant by "fireworks". He's not talking about complexity, he was talking about using bells and whistles to hide behind. This song is the most complex of this year. Hands down. From the vocals to the arrangement and harmonising; the 3/2 or 6/4 time signature and the complexity of meaning of the lyrics, this whole tune is made for you to feel the sorrow of losing someone (her grandpa) and to understand the meaning of such a unique word in our language. Stripping down a song with such complexity is very hard, and that's what's so special about "Saudade, saudade".
@JarydReacts
2 жыл бұрын
Oh we knew what Salvador meant, the issue still stands. You don't get to dismiss the "bells and whistles" just because you believe you're better than it, that your music is superior. It was pure arrogance and ignorance. Music means whatever it means to the listener, if they like "bells and whistles" and it brings them joy, then allow them that feeling 😊 all music is relevant, and that even applies to the people that call songs like Saudade "boring" or "another ballad".

Powerful song... Extremely beautiful. Especially for those who know the meaning of Saudade (a word without direct translation in any other language) "Saudade" is a mixture of feelings, its meaning is too broad, too deep, too complex to translate directly. To get an idea: If someone asked you to describe the word "Love", you would suggest a dozen books. If someone asked me to describe the word "Saudade", I would need an entire library.

Cette chanson elle est vraie, elle n'est pas une fabrication commerciale, elle est l'art. Maro n'a pas l'objectif de gagner. Humblement elle est là, pour expérimenter tel que Sobral. Vainqueurs ou pas lauréats, les Portugais visent l'art en première place....et cela est que manque dans ce concours : ART

Good job! I loved your reaction to this song, and loved hearing your thoughts on it. Like you I also find her voice so unique and beautiful, and also although very calm and a voice that goes low on the register, it contributes to give the song an unique sound, as well as its own personality, and soul. I fell inlove with this amazing song instantly, because of the beautiful harmonies and the pure, laid bare emotions that comes out of the voices as well as the lyrics of the song. I understand a lot of Portuguese, and I think it makes the song even more powerfully beautiful the way it's done, and in combination with the harmonies and calmness of the melody, it gives the song its own unique identity that is somewhat rare if one think about it . The vocals are so on point, it gives me chills. I could feel every word and emotion as well as the music in my heart, and I think this song can reach very far in the Eurovision 2022. I wish Portugal and Saudade Saudade by Maro the best of luck! 🤩🥰

@@JarydReacts You are very welcome! I also really appreciated the way you actually had taken the time to do the research for the word saudade to figure out it's meaning. I do that my self whenever I hear words of languages I want to figure out the meaning behind it to get a deeper understanding of the words. Although Portuguese is my 3rd language and I am not fluent at all and still learning, and despite the fact that there is no direct translation to the word in English (my 2nd language, and at least I like to think I speak it fluently and effortlessly although it may not be the case, lol), I knew the meaning behind saudade in the instantly when I heard the song, because I sensed it by the music and the lyrics. By the way, the pronunciation of the word saudade is the way it is most often said in Portugal, like they sing it in the song. The other pronunciation that you said in your reaction video that you've heard, is the way that they mostly pronounce it in the Brazilian almost kind of singing and more slow way of speaking Portuguese ;)
