I have been involved in n-scale model railroading since 1973 when I joined an n-scale club at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana campus. My current project plan involves a home railroad consisting of four modules: three that are 4 x 8 feet connected as an L and the fourth 4 x 7 feet. I enjoy your videos as a form of arm chair modeling. Thanks.

Jason!! Finally!! You have come over to "the Dark Side" ( as I like to tell my non N scale friends ) 😄😇. I have operated on hand throwing turnout layouts as you follow the train and you really get a sense of being an engineer. My newest under construction layout will use the same operation techniques. I am sure you remember, I have asked about N Scale kits many times and I am very interested in what you will be offering. Good Luck with this endeavor.

Jason: why dead frog turnouts? They tell me, and 'they' are never wrong, that all the little electrons can't get through plastic, so the crossings are giant sticking points. I hasten to add I have never actually seen an electron, but I found plastic crossings crippling - and that's in HO. Probably a good idea to linish down any high spots by laying a large file (no handle) over the turnout and GENTLY moving it to and fro. Try on an old turnout first; perhaps finish with emery and give a good clean. The idea is to stop 'humping' if the crossing sits a bit high. With live crossings humping can still occur but at least current still flows through the humped wheels, even if others are now humped uselessly clear of the rails. Yes, the wiring is more complicated, but worth it; just make sure the plastic 'walls' in the insulated joiners are trimmed lower than the rail so they too don't become 'humps'. Gentle curves, gentle radii, long turnouts, flat track without 'vertical curves', plenty of peppermints.

This ought to be pretty interesting. A word of caution on what looks like Atlas turnouts. I had some new #6's that I bought just before the pandemic started and they proved to have frog issues. You might want to assemble some of that track in a temporary way and see how they work. Atlas may have fixed the issues. I switched to Peco and everything works really well.

Jasen Very excited about your new N scale layout. I'm starting a N scale shelf layout and will be following (as always). I'm 76, been both a long-time model railroader and model builder; with my layouts emphasis on structures, scenery and details. Operations is a switching layout set in the 1950's. Just one question right now: what track and code? I am planning on using code 55 but have read there are operating issues. Good luck with another amazing project. Peter

Typical model railroader....unlike George Sellious, you aren't singularly focused on finishing your HO layout. Instead, you start another model railroad in a different scale and don't finish the one you've started already.
@JasonJensenTrains

Actually George would spend 6 months designing and manufacturing kits and the next 6 months he would work on the layout. I will definitely finish my HO scale layout. I gave myself 10 years and I’m at 4.5 now, so I feel I’m on schedule. Thanks for watching!!!

@@JasonJensenTrains love your HO layout concept and the way it's coming along. One correction...George did ALL his work on stuff in HO and most of his later kits have found a spot on that concentrated layout. So the focus was there.

My point about George is that he got to take a break from his layout and I’m sure he was excited to get back to work on it. My N scale layout gives me a break from HO. But the focus is always model railroading in any scale.
