An AI generated image is NOT art! These programs are trained on stolen artwork where artists were not paid for the use of their REAL art. IMO Part of getting a tattoo is working with your tattoo ARTIST on making a lifelong piece that you will forever enjoy. Part of what you pay for is an artists expertise and style in the field, in THEIR style! As an artist myself... AI GENERATED IMAGES ARE NOT ART.... PERIOD!

As a tattoo artist that don't use ai I have to say im fine with the ai images being used as designs. Theres times that I get overwhelmed with the amount of designs i have to do and sometimes is neer impossible to get all the designs done in time Where useing ai with artistic human skill added, can help for reference. Not only that, if your tattoo artist is not skilled artist they cant achieve the end outcome anyways. Therefore you STILL need to pay a SKILLED artist to even do some of the ai designs meaning your not takeing work from no one just saveing time during the creation process. My job is to make the client happy so if they love a design thats made with ai who am I to tell them there wrong and what to put on there bodies. I just have to make shure i have the skill set to capture the image on skin and thats where the artist skill comes into play. Its no different than someone finding a picture on google and asking for that exact picture with no changes.

A healthy mix of both AI & artistic interpretation when used together can make some great art, for instance I got a Xmen skull tatted, & my artist used AI to generate the skull & photo shop for the rest of the design, it turned out amazing & I got a good feeling nobody else will have that exact skull reference photo tatted on them. Using 100% AI is just lazy on both the client & artist

I think that the AI generated images may make it easier for a client to find a reference of what they want making it easier to convey that to the artist. Personally if I gave an artist AI generated images I would want them to then take that and give me their interpretation of the ideas I gave them, similar to how I've used photos of real tattoos that are similar to what I wanted in the past.

I'm on the "Ai can be a great help / tool" side. It's always a matter of how you use it. It shouldn't replace artists, but artists and the clients can profit from using AI as a support. It's the same with any other branch of work where people feel "threatened" by AI. Do not fear it, but embrace it. It can be an amazing help if used right

If you want to use AI for references, go for it. If you don't want to, don't. It's that simple. Just make sure you know what you're going to be getting from your artist. There is debate on the ethics of AI art in the first place, which I think we still need to think about.

AI may be a good way to rough out ideas. If I knew I wanted X and Y in a tattoo but was unsure of other details, maybe seeing some ideas that help narrow down what I want could be helpful. Like a hitech version of a search for photos. I wouldn't take an AI generated picture and ask an artist to do it exactly, but I would be willing to say 'this gets pretty close to what I think I am looking for'. I trust my artist and I am sure he would make something even better for me. I am a visual person and this process may help me provided guidance as well.

No matter how good the image is only a real artist can put it on your skin and make it look good, that is the art of the tattooist . I say go for it if it helps people with ideas for their tattoo and then they take it to an tattooist and they use that idea but add their own flair, There are only so many reference images about to base realistic tattoos off so if this brings new life and new options then why not ?

i honestly think that the creativity of a tattoo artist is phenomenal and unmatched..however when you're in the "planning" stages of the tattoo or maybe can't afford one right now, i think AI is a great tool to try and get personalized reference photos but it should not be the final design you decide on. especially if what you're looking for specifically hasn't been done, so i actually think AI is cool, but like i said, once you're in the process of searching for/talking to an artist THEN it should be fully designed by the artist, trust them and work with them, it's the best route imo.

I think the app is a good Tool. Wish I knew which one to use myself because I have run into tattoo artists Telling me what I want opposed to doing What I want and this isn't just one or two tattoo artists. They think their rock stars are something they don't want to communicate. They want you to take the very first design and for you not to have any input. They also want to argue with you about what you want on your own body. so I say, use the AI so you can at least see different ideas, and go from there. You owe nobody anything you don't owe a tattoo artist or an artist anything, it's your body and your tattoo. You should be able to do what you want not someone telling you what you want. It still takes a good artist to apply it.

People just have to accept that as technology progresses, more and more jobs will be obsolete or competitive. I think instead of antagonizing A.I.'s, people should just adapt and learn them so they can add it in their arsenal. Social Media still wasn't a thing back then so people don't have the means yet to be more vocal of their opinions, but I can imagine when Photoshop came out, there are some traditional artists who would look down on the software as well and on the people who use it, but eventually being able to use Photoshop has become a legitimate skill. And I think the same can be said for Tattoo A.I.'s. Eventually, the game would be who could leverage A.I's the most to their fullest potential.

I think AI can be useful to give the artist a general idea of what you what you want but I would rather have the artist come up with the final design. That's what I did with my most recent one. The designs that AI showed for me had so much detail. They also would have probably been too expensive and take up more space than I would like.

Something to keep in mind is that AI "art" is not real art. It steals real artists' drawing and remixes them, all with zero credit or compensation. As a tool, AI is good for inspiration. It can be a great jumping point so that you and the tattoo artist are on the same page. But it should be just that; a starting point. The artist should 100% modify to make it actually original and not just a blatant copy

AI gives people a lot of new ideas, but I do see some real difficulties bringing these ideas to fruition. The scenario I have in my head is people who are completely unfamiliar with the tattooing process making AI-generated designs, then reaching out to the cheapest artists they can find and ends up with botched tats. Or coming up with dramatic back pieces and realizing it hurts too much, costs too much, etc. I also see artists who refuse to replicate an AI tat because they don't want to copy someone else's work. The part where you mentioned about unscrupulous "artists" pretending AI generated images of tats is what they did and what they can do. There is a lot more to tattooing than just putting ink to skin. And the simple "AI or not?" discussion is never enough. There's a few more wrinkles involved.

As a new tattoo artist just getting my toes wet…. I think AI is awesome, I use mid journey and it’s awesome. There is creativity in typing words and prompts from thoughts as there is drawing from thoughts. I think your overall look is a fantastic way to view it. Some are going to hate and some are going to love. Possers posting tattoos that aren’t there’s is a shame, it’s only going to take one client to ruin that posser. Hopefully the client does a bit more research into the artist in the first place. AI is definitely here to stay and it should be embraced as a tool in the bag of tricks. At the end of the day, you need to be a decent tattoo artist to apply a decent tattoo. A great design inspired solely out of one’s mind can be an absolute disaster once applied to skin.

I find there is a clear difference between an image purely done via a prompt to an AI model and an image where an artist has used the AI as a tool to rough out some ideas quickly and then expanded on them. The human touch is noticeable even if you can't put your finger on it, I'm personally all for the use of AI in this area. Much like the other sectors it is being applied to AI is not going to replace the human, a human using AI is going to replace those that don't.

I'm an artist myself but I do think they're both pros and cons of AI. Honestly it's more negative than positive. On the positive side, it gives inspiration a little. But on the negative side of things, people could just use it and its lazy and not that good. There's more I could say about it being negative but too tired and busy rn so I'll leave this here. But real tattoo Artists will always reign supreme, they make tattoos feel more alive and not stiff. Artists had made their own videos explaining why its bad for them so I don't really have to explain it here otherwise I would've made a paragraph.

I’m contemplating getting a tattoo, and I’ve been using AI to workshop templates for a design because I cannot draw at all. It’s helpful to look for what themes and styles you might like, especially if you are the type of person who likes having a specific plan before you walk into a shop. My plan would be “I would like something like this, with this that and the other changed but xyz aspects of the composition I really like” and work from there. It’s like a prototype, just a starting point that we work from.

The problem with using AI for anything at all is that it is inherently unethical, since databases of the most widely used generation tools are quite literally compiled of stolen work, with no way to backtrack or at least find out who it belongs to. With that being said, completely understandable how it might be useful in your case - it's just that the root of it all is corrupt to begin with.

@@shaftsburry1773 Why do you think artists having intellectual rights is a bad thing? Imagine anyone having rights to your tattoo artist's work, for example. This would literally deprive them of their income, any kind of legal protection if their work is used in a malicious way, and would just plain allow other people to steal the exact tattoos you have. Do you also agree that anyone can do it to your own work, then? Copyright exists for many reasons, not just because companies want royalties or something.
@shaftsburry1773

@@waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa9739Because while I value the art itself, I do not see any reason why the concept or idea should be legally protected. It would not deprive any artist of work, we pay them for their labor and personal skill, not what copywrites they hold. Copywrite as it is is only a detrimental and broken system. It only benefits extremely large organizations like Disney or Nintendo and the like, and stifles the work of others who would like to use something like a song or Pokemon in a new way. Even though that's Fair Use it doesn't matter when law-fare is involved. At the end of the day, I do not see why anyone should be allowed to say that they own one particular thought, and even if there are reasons the current system is certainly a very bad one.
