As a 32 year old I missed the EQ1 train but also love Embers Adrift. People definitely sell the game short by calling it niche. It's HUGE and full to the brim with a world to explore. It's JUST missing the people at this point. Obviously there are many things that could be better or improved. That said, I sincerely don't expect genuine innovation from within the existing MMORPG industry. The next big, innovated MMO will be from an indie developer and funding is the ultimate limiting factor. I wish the devs would HYPE the game up. There are so many people who have shelved the game to wait for it to have more time in the oven. The time has come! We need more hype! Great video Llama!

@Zig: the game mostly needing more hype is true from YOUR perspective, aka someone who liked the game from the start. For YOU, all the updates made it even better because they brought more content, some QoL and Bugfixes. But try to take the perspective of those you want to hype, those that quit after launch before reaching lvl 20 (which should be the vast majority) and think of the reasons WHY they quit. Maybe they didn't like the classes and their abilities, the combat, the graphics and performance, the world and it's design, leveling speed etc etc. So what did the updates do in these regards? Not a whole lot... I bet, if tomorrow 1000 new players would magically appear, two things would happen: a) it would pretty much have the same abysmal retention rates as at launch (or the free month in Nov '23 as another example) b) the game would be an even more frustrating experience as it is not designed to handle a big number of players in most quests and dungeons. Imagine 50 groups wanting to do CV1. Or 400 lvl 50s competing for the raid bosses...

@CM-xk5is I like this perspective, my dude. I believe the player retention does need to be analyzed to see why people hop off. Also, thank you for sharing your thoughts.😄

Great content and liked the points you made. I actually really like the game and would love to log in and play, but unfortunately that is not the case anymore since like you mentioned, the population is very low and impossible to find a group. This was not the case when the game first came out and even months after. All the new solo content is boring and soloing is still painful. Few things- You kept using the word "magic". There really is no magic in the game. Calling alchemy-magic is a false statement. Alchemy is just your current skill with a "slight" enhancement- on a few classes with some skills there really is no change to the skill at all. The alchemy system needs some love(changes) to make an impact. Raids have been added to the game and that is good but.......are there enough players to participate for the raid level? I am really hoping that the devs figure out what this game needs to keep the people in the game and not play for a week or so and leave. I would love to be able to log in one day and find a group since that is what the game is based on.

Soloing is not painful. It’s how it should be honestly. The definition of grind in my opinion. You want to get to know each and every creatures movements, tactics, etc. not plow down 150 in 30 mins and be at level 20.
@SamM-d2o

@@America_is_now_Mexico2.0 Actually no, but it should not take well over 12 hours to get a level in the 20s. I can see that maybe In the 40s.

i liked EA a lot , i especially liked how it encouraged ppl to group up because it takes a long time to kill mobs in solo. For me one of the biggest issues with the game was the lack of a decent in game map. the devs were so stuck with their niche old-school aim for the game that they never implemented it. I got tired of alt-tabbing between the game and a wiki page with a map on it.

But i want thiss game to get a higher player base and i will stick around this time around and get to a higher lvl than 10. I want to try out the solo dungeons and play group up with ppl. do more crafting, check out the alchemy system and so on! : D

@@Annoying_Llama I played this game back in october during the free play as well! I've been a sub since then but havent played it in quite a while but don't mind subbing to support the devs / game. I really like the feel of the game, i just wish i could get my friends to play it. I wish there was a healthier population on this server. Would be nice to have 500+ active players on all day. Just hopped in to check it out and only 5 players online 😢

Im an old school est. 2000 mmo so courtesy, respect for other gamers is first and foremost. The problem with millennials/Gen-z is they expect everything quickly, are entitled and want it quick and easy. This game does not cater to the majority of those gamers.

Remember that popular and unpopular do not mean good or bad. So niche is not a condemnation, but a description. It merely acknowledges that the vast majority of people are not a fan of high investment slow-paced games. That rpg, as opposed to arpg, combat is significantly less popular. This is objectively correct. EverQuest was niche. Eve Online is niche. Embers without any doubt is niche, although as you mentioned it is, tragically, forced to begin fighting its way out of that niche and into the mainstream. Mores the pity.

The biggest reason I don’t play is there’s not many to play with. I’m online right on and there’s 14 people online. Also there’s this huge issue on my Amd rig (Ryzen 9 5950x, 32g ram 6800xt) and my distant trees flicker like a disco ball. Totally ruins the experience and I’ve confirmed with others there having the same experience. Every time I bring this up to Undone I get “the distant tree assets” and this is fine. Constantly seeing new content come out with this not being fixed is pretty aggravating. The current fix is putting my tree slider to 1000 which tanks performance in many beautiful zones like Redridge. I’m lvl 41 and really want to play this but it eventually ruins my time.

I admire what they are trying to do with this game, the devs have a vision for what they want to do and want to stay true to that. I feel that games like Embers and Pantheon are going to be stuck in between 2 audiences. Games like wow are really starting to soften a lot of the time commitment stuff not just to appeal to a younger audience but because the player base is aging and simply can't do a lot of the long grinds that we used to because of work and family stuff. The younger crowd has been raised mostly on games that are much faster paced and have a more immediate reward feedback loop. I sadly think this new generation of "old school" mmos just aren't a fit for either end of the modern player spectrum which is why they all end up with tiny player counts.

There's nothing wrong with low fantasy. As far as i'm concerned low fantasy can be more exciting than high in its "realism" aspect. The problem is when, as what you show here in your video, it just looks bland. Show ppl something exciting!
