Well, I just was "forced" to look up Elizabeth Hartman and order her Aviatrix pattern. I'm going to do it in scrappy fabric. And in the interests of decluttering, I very rarely buy quilt patterns... but when you said "designed well," I wanted to see what that means. Most of the time, I buy patterns right before I make them, but this one I am storing.

Quilting isn't popular where I live and I'm self -taught. On seeing an ad for a guild looking for members. I decided to go even though it was a distance from home. On arriving I said hello but was ignored. Decided to go a second time. On taking fabric from my bag one lady said put that thing away it's giving me a headache. The fabric was a fat quarter bundle of midwest modern. Listening to you two singing the praises of guilds and how welcoming, friendly and encouraging they are I wish that had been my experience. I never used the fabric. I sent it to a charity in the UK.

I am so sorry to hear that. Maybe try again. When I initially went to my guild I was the youngest one. The ladies already had their little groups. I kept going even though no one spoke to me. Then they had their yearly quilt show where you entered your quilts. I entered a few. I received a phone call that I should come to the preview party. I didn't understand at the time and did not go. But I did go to the show. Everyone was pointing and whispering at me. I was like what is going on? There was a couple of ribbons on the quilt. I smiled. And a group of ladies said to me, do you realize what you won? I said not really. They said you got 1st place in your category and Best of Show. I didn't really understand the significance of it at the time. All of a sudden I was taken seriously, everybody wanted me to join their groups and to this day they are my family and best of friends. Sometimes it takes time to merge into tight knit groups. Go back, smile and introduce yourself. Take classes, do show and tell and make friends with new members. You will be surprised how warm and friendly quilters are. Good luck.

They just see the same old fabric on the machine. I am a big fabric horder and I need to stop buying fabric until I get the fabric I do have into a FINISHED project.
