Having lived my 60+ years all over the USA I have the craziest vocabulary! From “can you carry me to the store, back deer, fixin to, pee-hearted, umbers and baby ducks”! Unfortunately many of these phrases carried over to my children! 😂😂😂 The looks we get at family gatherings is always fun. Via French from Latin umbra (shade, shadow), which also gave us the words umbrella, umbrage, adumbrate, and somber. It was a phrase that was specifically brought by Frenchmen learning English/Spanish in New Mexico it is a shortened way to say throwing shade or casting shade to the slang version now which basically means that something is no good
